Summary: | The High Commissioner for the Refuges was created by the League of Nations and whose leader was the Norwegian Fridtjof Nansen. Their works was helping refugees after the Great War, focusing mainly on two large groups: the Russian (who had been affected by a famine caused by the civil war) and the Armenian (who had suffered numerous persecutions and massacres in the Ottoman Empire). The humanitarian activities carried out by Nansen allowed him to win the Nobel Peace Prize, and even, once he died in 1930, the Nansen Internacional Office was created, which wanted to continue his philanthropic activities. |
