Description
Summary:Coaching by Individual Programming is fundamentally about the player/s engagement in self-assessment. The role of the player is to check their performance against criteria prepared by the coach. A coach may use this style where the aim is to develop the player’s self-awareness about proficiency of performance, or to help the player move towards being a more self-regulated learner. Feedback on performance has shifted from a peer in Style C to the individual player to self-check when a coach uses this coaching style. Coaching by Individual Programming is a step towards the development of autonomy-supportive coaching opportunities. The Individual Programming coaching style could be used for a participant attempting to refine the technique of an Eskimo roll that is used as a ‘self-rescue’ to right a kayak that has capsized with the paddler still inside. The Individual Programming coaching style could be used for a player taking live batting practice.
