Description
Summary:Ocean acidification is a concerning environmental issue that has been highlighted in recent scientific literature. Currently, there is no unifying treaty specifically focused on ocean acidification, leading to a confusing and fragmented legal framework. The complexity of the problem lies in its implications in areas such as climate change, oceans, biodiversity, and sustainable development, which requires the effective coordination among different international legal frameworks. The objective of this work is to analyze ocean acidification, its impact on marine biodiversity, and the treatment it has received under the Convention on Biological Diversity. Furthermore, it seeks to explore potential connections and synergies between this convention and other international instruments such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. The focus is on understanding the causes and consequences of acidification, as well as identifying opportunities for cooperation among different legal frameworks to address this environmental challenge.
