Description
Summary:The concepts of Detached, Dependent and Sustained community development has been developed as a tool to understand differences in development dynamics, and thereby contribute to a better understanding of how Arctic communities tend to follow different development paths. Three municipalities in Greenland have previously been presented as indicative of these development paths, and a short summary of these findings is presented in relation to characteristics such as formal and informal economic structures, and general population development. In addition, the questions of different informal structures and chosen paths in relation to tourism are tested, and the paper concludes that the concepts seem to be adequate and useful when scrutinizing these sectors.
