Description
Summary:A polaroptimized mesoscale climate model, Polar Weather Research and Forcasting model (WRF), has been used over the Svalbard archipelago for analysing last trends in climate. The climate model has been downscaled by the reanalysis model ERA-Interim to 8 km spatial resolution for the period 1989-2010. Annual and seasonal trends for three sites, scattered across the archipelago, were analyzed for three meteorological parameters, temperature, precipitation and wind. An additional lapse rate were calculated for two glaciers at Nordaustlandet. The analyze shows that the Polar-WRF model suggest an significance temperature increase by 0.67-0.82oC. However, changes in precipitation and wind are harder to prove. The calculated annual lapse rate at Nordaustlandet shows an temperature decrease by 4.2-4.6oC.
