Summary:Abstract The competence of Intercultural business communication is needed in this global era. Communication competence relates to one’s viewpoint on a particular group of people (stereotype). This study aims to examine the effect of inter-ethnic stereotypes toward the competence of business communication between Padang and Java silver entrepreneurs in Yogyakarta and Padang. This study used an objective perspective with the quantitative data collection methods and Structural Equation Model (SEM) analysis techniques. The findings indicate which principally reinforce the existence of Theory Ethnocentrism, Intercultural Communication Theory of Gudykuns and Kim, as well as Intercultural Communication Competence Model of Spitzberg. The silver entrepreneurs of Padang Java communicate each other with the involvement of culture (cultural values ), sociocultural (the experience of inter-ethnic), and psycho-cultural (social prejudices). Spitzberg intercultural communication competence model which includes; motivation, knowledge, and communication skills, have been tested for the case in Indonesia, especially Java and ethnic entrepreneurs silver Padang. The author hopes that the existence of the theories of intercultural business communication is growing in Indonesia. Abstrak Kompetensi komunikasi bisnis lintas budaya sangat diperlukan di era global ini. Kompetensi komunikasi berkaitan erat dengan sudut pandang seseorang tentang sekelompok orang tertentu (stereotip). Penelitian ini bertujuan menguji pengaruh stereotip antaretnik terhadap kompetensi komunikasi bisnis di antara para pengusaha perak Jawa dan Padang diYogyakarta dan di Padang. Penelitian ini menggunakan perspektif objektif dengan metode pengumpulan data kuantitatif, serta teknik analisis Structural Equation Model (SEM). Secara keseluruhan hasil penelitian ini memperkuat keberadaan Teori Etnosentrisme, Teori Komunikasi Antar budaya Gudykuns dan Kim, serta Modell Kompetensi Komunikasi Antar budaya Spitzberg.
