Description
Summary:7) Entrance to the Guanabara Bay, flanked by forts. On the left is Fort São João, at the tip of the Morro Cara de Cão (Dogface Hill). The Portuguese practically neglected the Guanabara Bay area until the French decided to challenge their hegemony and founded Antartic France in 1555. The French colony was located on a small island where today the domestic Santos Dumont airport lies. ln 1565, Estácio de Sá defeated the French and founded the city of São Sebastião of Rio de Janeiro. The first settlement was located between Morro Salvador, Bahia to Rio de Janeiro.7) Entrada da Baía da Guanabara, ladeada por fortes.
