Description
Summary:The SI (School Identity) and C4 (Cue counting for cue change) experiments were conducted on the 1988/9 IWC/IDCR Antarctic sightings survey to test hypotheses put forward to explain divergent results from 2 different methods used to estimate g(0) (the probability of seeing whales on the trackline) in these surveys. The object of the SI experiment was to test for an increased tendency of observers to group whales into schools at larger perpendicular distances, and of the C4 experiment to test for an increase in the number of cues given by whales at smaller radial distances. -from Authors
