PS? to any- Leisure RECREATION & PARKS NEWS RELEASE In times when prices are rising and your recreation tax dollar does not go as far as it once did, the best edge against inflation is to use all monies available to you to their fullest potential. What better way than to utilize all services and programs available to you through Alberta Recreation & Parks Through the ’Recreation Smorgasbord Program’ sponsored by Alberta Recreation & Parks, a workshop is being set up by which you will meet the "Recreation Development Division" staff from Edmonton. What better way to learn about all the services and programs your community can benefit from, than to meet the people that are behind them? The workshop is scheduled for January 22 , 1983 at thei- Lethbridge Lodge. For a registration fee of $12 you will receive a resource material package, a special 'Recreation Smorgasbord’ binder as well as a hearty lunchtime meal. The workshop promises to be an informative day covering a wide scope of areas involved in providing leisure services on a province-wide basis. DON’T QUIT When things go wrong, as they sometimes will, When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill, And you Want to smile, but you have to sigh, When the funds are low and the debts are high, When the car is passing you down a bit, . Rest, if you must — but don’t you quit. ■ Life is queer with its twists and turns, As every one of us sometimes learns. And many a failure turns about, When he might have won had he stuck it out. Don’t give up, though the pace seems slow, You might succeed with another blow. . Often the goal is nearer than It seems to a faint and faltering man. Often the struggler has given up, When he might have captured the victor’s cup. And he learned too late, when the night slipped down, How close he was to the golden crown. Success is failure turned inside out, The silver tint of the clouds of doubt. And you never can tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems afar. So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit, It’s when the things seem worst that you mustn’t quit. — Selected ’ Men’s rubber Over in Flyer style wiuL shearling inner cuff, 4 Buckles , etc. Broken size r^rvc NO RETURNS. The Agriculture sector was faced with increased imput costs (fertilizer, fuel, chemicals, machinery, etc.) Selling prices for many grains were lower. Much of our feed barley has sold for less than the cost of production. Our sugar beet growers in the Welling area as well as the rest of the industry were faced with reduced yields and substantially lower prices for beets. One cannot forget the two hail storms that left their scar through our Municipal District, destroying thousands of acres of crops. Inspite of respectable calf prices this Fall, we sed a very poor demand for bred heifers And cows. Our slaughter plants are reporting an increased percentage in p-foe number of females being slaughtered both in Canada and the U.S. which indicates a liquidation phase in the cattle cycle. Land transactions in Alberta as reported by the Farm Credit office are greatly reduced. Our neighbors to the South a ppear to react quicker to the prices of goods sold and imput costs. They speak of falling land prices and of renegotiating reduced land rentals. Try and get reduced rent in Alberta! We have seen both large and small businesses in serious trouble. A lot of our farmers are taking a very serious look at the farming enterprise in order to reduce debt and generate a cash flow. I see 1983 as a year of caution and a time of re-evaluation with an emphasis on increased production from what already exists. A popular philosophy in Agriculture is "Next Year Things Will be Better". I hope 1983 brings to you what you need. Best wisb.es and a Happy New Year. J_ ames _R . uH ansen, . .
