The following article on "Thanksing" was written by a student of mild Andersen who teaches at New a Colony. THANKSGIVING Thanksgiving is a day set aside - people to thank God for the rvest. cBut some people do not nk that God aided them, they ' nk they did it all themselves. y also think it is just a day to e a great feast and a lazy holi- Co me, the people who do not uk God on Thanksgiving Day, don't erstand the meaning of Thanksing. They don't take time to nk, they just say "We did it our-ves. Why should we thank God?" chink these people are queer. City people are grateful for diff-cnt things than farmers are, but they 111 have Thanksgiving. Farmers are thankful for their crops 1 city people are thankful for other Ings . Turkey, for many of as, has become one of those Thanksgiving traditions. How many of us rebutcher our turkeys in an attempt to carve them? Turkey is really quite easy to carve. Just follow these guide lines: 1. Use a sharp carving knife. This helps prevent tearing meat. 2. Let the bird set for 15 min. when it is removed from the oven to allow the bird to firm up slightly making it much easier to carve. 3. First remove the drumstick and thigh by pressing leg away from body. The joint will sometimes snap free or may be severed easily with knife point. Cut dark meat completely from body by following body contour carefully with knife. Next slice dark meat placing drumstick and thigh on separate plate and cut through connecting joint. Both pieces may be individually sliced. Tilt drumstick slicing toward plate. The thigh can be sliced by holding firmly on plate with fork. 5. The breast must be carved by placing knife parallel and is close to wing as possible. Make a 'eep cut into breast cutting right to one. This is your base cut and all reast slices will stop at this vert-cal cut. Carve downward ending at ase cut. Start each new slice slightly higher up on the breast keeping . dices thin and even. Now you have a nicely carved turkey nd have freed the bones for making t nice turkey broth. Enjoy! For more information on purchasing storing or preparing your turkey call Sharon Cummins, Dist. Home Economist, ardston. Phone 653-4461. The regular meeting of the Magrath Hospital Auxiliary will be held today, Chursday, Oct. 6th, 2 p.m. at the hospital.
