Summary:An archive of the Magrath Trading Store News. The University of Lethbridge Library received permission from the Wes Balderson to digitize and display this content. MAGRATH NEWS Published Weekly since 1932 by The Magrath Trading Company 30 cents WEDNESDAY MAY 2ND, 1994 MOTHER’S LOVE Of all our blessings 'neath the sun, I try to count them one by one, There's blessings great and blessings small, But Mother's love is best of all. Don't forget that Mother's Day is this Sunday, May 8. Let that special Mother or Grandmother know how much you appreciate her. SCHOOL NEWS: Information regarding the restructuring of Alberta Education is constantly being sent to the school and I wish to share some of the material sent to us. Our school board are still negotiating with neighbouring jurisdictions as we must become part of a new Regional Board with about 5000 students. At present Cardston School Division has about 3200 students. Three neighbouring areas looking at joining with our Board are Stirling, County of Warner and Pincher Creek. These new jurisdictions must be ready by the end of this calendar year so that new voting districts can be ready for the October 1995 municipal elections. Premier Klein recently announced that local boards will retain the right to hire their own superintendents but those hired must be approved by Provincial Order in Council. Another change in school districts will be the ability of a school board to approach its electorate once every three years to request additional local tax dollars for a specified purpose with a limit of 3% of a boards annual operation budget. Theme V Alberta education requires that every school in the Province teach the Human Sexuality theme of the health program each year. This theme will be offered to all students in grades 4 through 9 but parents have the right to request that their children do not attend those classes. A parent information night will be held on May 5 in the school library, at this time we will share the curriculum to be taught as well as showing the AV materials we are planning to use. If parents decide not to allow their children to take the schools instruction then they must write a letter to the school requesting that their children be given alternative classes during Theme V class time.
