LITTLE TOWNS Life’s thrilling in a city; there’s So much to hear and see— Fine churches, plays and operas, Bright lights and gaiety; But passing faces all are strange— You feel an alien guest— Ah, if you’re sad or lonely, then A little town is best. For in th? little country towns Your friends are everywhere, And high and low, and pld and young, The common interests share. And if you are in trouble, they Comp flocking to your door. Kind hands outstretched to bring you aid; Their kind hearts, too, are sore. In little towns the people say “Good morning” when you meet, And smiling children stop their play To greet you in the street. It may be little towns are slow, But they are quick to see That what is needed most in life Are friends—and sympathy. —Robina Monkman 11ii KINGSFORD CHARCOAL BRIQUETS 10 lb. 6431-453-5# SPECIAL WOOD CHIPS WEBER FIRESPICE REG. $4.49 NOW. The warning applies to fireplaces that exhaust directly through the wall behind the unit and that have a sealed glass front panel that cannot be opened. Under certain conditions, the burner flame may die, resulting in an accumulation of gas inside the unit. Attempts to reignite the flame may cause an explosion, shattering the front glass and sending particles into the room. The Canadian Gas Association has rescinded certification of all brands of gas fireplaces. Owners of existing units are advised to turn off the gas supply to the fireplace and contact the manufacturer or distributor to arrange for corrective action. BABY BEAN BAG CUSHIONS RECALLED Two bean bag cushions are being recalled in Canada after the deaths of 19 infants involving similar pillows in the United States since September 1987. Consumer and Corporate Affairs Canada said that babies can suffocate if placed face down on the Beeni Bag, made by Formelco Ltd., and Cozy Cushion, made by Pinky Baby Products. Neither has been involved in any deaths in Canada. The department said infants should use only a firm, children's mattress. People with Beeni Bags should write Formelco Ltd., 5653 McAdam Rd., Mississauga, Ontario, L4Z 1N4, to exchange them. Cozy Cushions should be returned to the store. Phone 758-3679 after 6:00 p.m WEATHERMAN'S SALVATION Do you think it's fun being a weather forecaster these days, given the miserable spring we have had? Think again. So in tribute to our beleaguered weather prognosticators, we have the following poetic outburst: A weatherman stood at the Pearl Gates, His face all ruddy and old. "What have you done,” St. Peter said, "To gain admittance to the fold?” "I've been an Alberta weatherman, sir, I've forecast for many a year.” He slowly raised his hand to his cheek And brushed away a tear. The pearly gates swung open wide, St. Peter rang the bell. Come in, old man, you're welcome here You've already been through Hell!" Magrath and District Fair needs VOLUNTEERS for the 1990 Fair.
