The Magrath Rockets ttfved onto the finals of the Alberta Senior Men's Basketball League in Edmonton Saturday, trimming the Waterloo Meteors 70-56 in the sadden death semi-finals, A1 West scored 23 points in the first half as the Rockets piled up a 20-16 first quarter lead and a 38-31 margin at the conclusion of the first half. Meteors began checking West closer in the second half and limited him to 10 points, but Wes Rice shook loose and netted. 11 to spark the club's second half effort. The Magrath squad displayed a sharp passing attack and some excellent shooting particularly in the final quarter when they froze the ball for nearly 4 minutes despite frantic Meteor efforts to regain it. Du/e to this win the Rockets met the Golden Bears for the Alberta Title in Edmonton Monday 4 Tuesday but were defeated in both games making them uneligble for further competition. As the evening progressed Mrs. Claudette Seward presented a toast to the M Men tc which Mr. Ken Gibb, teacher of the group, responded. The evonin was kept lively with j comic floor shows with iiiss Ruth Keeler act­ing as M.C. A fashion show was presented "On How Men Dress" by Miss_ss Karma Ehlert, Susie Saga, Jean Gurney, LaVonnie Peterson, Mrs. Norma Tanner A hrs. Ray Atwood. The men really got the inside view of what they look like in their various fishing, hunting, & round the house garbs. Miss Joan Harker acted as commentator for this event. Misses Ruth Keeler, Eva Marie Crookston & Karma Ehlert disguised as famous singers from the New York Opera presented a vocal repdition of "How Much is that 'Man in the Window". Mrs. Ethel Miller A good attendance was present for the very entertninir - March 17th festivities ( program, lunch *i dance) which took place Tuesday even­ing in the Assembly Hall. They were under the auspices of the First ,» Second Ward Relief Societies as it was also the 111th. Anniversary of the I elief Society Organization. Mrs. Winnie Ehlert took charge and Mrs. Mar .aret Ririe opened with prayer. Using- the word’Relief Soc­iety" as the theme, Mrs Doreen Alston was a very effective narrator, as the program unfolded: each letter of the word in shining lavender metallic was carried on the sta; e by an attractive young lady formally attired. Sandwiched in­between each letter, which symbolized the various attributes of the Relief Society, were some very delightful musicals and comic sketches including: Toe dance by four petite ballerinas in colorful rose costumes, Bonnie Brewerton, Cheryl Bennett, Patricia Holliday A Gloria Harris directed by Miss Dam Robinson and accompanied by her sister Marian; Vocal Solo "Where the River Shannon Flows" by Elva Harker accompanied by her son Doan on the guitar; Comic Sketch "The Kleenex Salesman" by Nyal Fletcher; Vocal Solo«"Sweet Violets" Sylvia Drown accompanied by her sister Maureen; "Military Tap Dunce" by six young ladies attired in red ‘ white satin, directed by Dawn Robinson h accompaniel by her sister Marion; Violin Duet, Bessie & Shirley Taylor accompanied by Mrs. Freda Fletcher; Vocal Quartette consisting of L.D.
