Tho highest study of all is that which toachos us to develop those principles of purity and perfect virtuB which Heaven bestowed upon us at our birth, in order that we acquire the power of influencing for good these amongst vhon we are placed, by our procepts and examples; a study without an end — for our labours ccase3 only when we have become perfect — an unattainable goal, but one that we must not tho less sot before us from the very first. It ia true that we shall not be able to reach it, but in our struggle toward it wo shall strengthen our characters and give stability to our ideas, so that, whilst over advancing calmly in the some direction, we shall bo rendered capable of applying the faculties with which we have been gifted to tho best possible account. —-Confuoiue, Out-of-town guests included: Hiss Dora Tracbe, Rod Doer; Hiss Ann lorko, Edmonton, Miss Barabra \Lamb, Calgary; Hiss Uadge Ririe, Lethbridge, Bill Minor and Don Scott, Lethbridge; Forest Balderson, Calgary and Ray Zenp, Lethbridge. Gardiner takes it upon himself to plan the livestock business. What a mess ho has made especially of the hog end of it. Imagine Aoing penalized $3.00 per hundred lbs, for a hog with a round rib. (v/e had that experience on three hogs last week.) The leaner the hog the nore money he brings. We read that Canada ■i’TOOT’ted from the U, S. two, 500,000 lbs. shipments of lard at Christmas time to help relieve the Canadian shortage. Besides sugar, wool, lard, etc, we will soon be importing many farm products. This planning by our professors at Ottawa reminds us of the winter of 1916. We had a stack of prairie wool hay South-east of town. We'toolj our shhep there. We had a new herder. He was a hard worker, a very conscientious man. During the summer he farmed for the late Floyd S, Bradshaw. There came a big enow about like this winter. It was deep, too deep for the sheep to rustle. We had this stack of hay so we were not worrying. After several days we went out to see how the sheep were faring. Well they were a tough looking flock, on their last legs. The hay stack was practically intact. We started to scold the man (our usual mode of procedure). He took us over to the stack. Willows were poked into the stack a few feet apart along the northside. As we remember he was an Austrian, The first stiok, he explained was hay for November, the next, December; January, etc. The man had divided the stack into six or seven divisions and when the monthly quota was used up -th ere was no more hay for sheep until the next month. We explained to him to throw away the willows and feed the sheep all the hay they would eat, when the stack was gone we would move to another field. The man saw the foolishness of his planning which is more than Donald Gordon or the Min- 1 ister of Agriculture can do. Their long suit is quotas, oontrols, ceilings, restric- 1 tions, embargoes rationing anything to dis- i courage the producer. Canada is ruled by a group of bureaucrats and our members instead of trying to remedy the situation talk Breton Woods and Monetary reform from morning until night,i.
