In last week's Store News we published an article entitled "Magrath Golf Club" which should have read "Magrath Rod & Gun Club". As you know the Magrath Golf Club does not hold organized "Gopher Hunts" but the Magrath Rod & Gun Club does. We apologize for the error. However when we thought about the mistake we recall both organizations using the term "Shot". The hunter uses the term for the number of targets or the amount of game he has "shot The golfer uses the term "shot" refering to the score he has made "I shot a 72". Then both have "Ranges" - a Gun Range; a Driving Range. Both clubs use score cards - and of coarse there are "Gopher Tails" and "Tall Tales". PLANTS Glemantis Clematis’ in a variety of colors. First Mother’s Day May 10, 1908 was to become a fateful and momentous day in American and, ultimately, world history, for it was on that day that the first official Mother's Day was observed and the first Mother’s Day sermons preached in Grafton, W.V. Mother’s Day was the idea of Anna Jarvis. It was conceived in 1907, the second anniversary of her mother's death. She was then living in Philadelphia, where she proposed the scheme to a group of friends. A West Virginia school teacher, transplanted to Philadelphia, she took her idea to John W. Wana-maker, even then a commercial and community leader, who actively encouraged her development of the plan. Just two years later, on April 26, 1910, the first official Mother’s Day proclamation was issued by Governor William E. Glasscock of West Virginia, Jarvis' home state. By 1912. she had been officially recognized as the founder of Mother’s Day. So, in May 1914, only six years after the first celebration, Congress, by Joint Resolutions, set Mother’s Day as the second Sunday of each May (the anniversary of Mrs. Anna Reeves Jarvis' death), and Presi-’ dent Woodrow Wilson signed the Resolutions, issuing a Proclamation ordering its national observance. Today, Mother’s Day is observed throughout many part of the western world. Jarvis, who died in 1948, never had children of her own, but she will always be remembered. "The Irrigation Monument was a joint effort. Tanner Building Supplies built the frame. C.J. McLain stuccoed it. The horses were copied from an old photo and cut out of .sheet iron by Lethbridge Iron Works. The plough on top was lying in a field somewhere and Norm Christensen welded it on top.
