Funeral Services for the late James Hunter, long time resident of Spring Coulee, and respected friend of Magrath and area residents, were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 27 at McKillop United Church, Lethbridge, with Reverend Peter Walker officiating. Jim Hunter was bom in Milford, Donegal, Ireland, April 10th, 1904. At the age of 6 years he came to Canada with his parents and settled in Fort Macleod where he later was employed by Canadian Pacific Railways and the Fort Macleod Reach & Company. He married Elizabeth Sanders, also of Fort Macleod, on October 17, 1928. In March of the following year they moved to Spring Coulee and it was there that Jim and Elizabeth farmed for 58 years, raised 3 children - son Donald (Eileen) of Abbotsford, B.C.; daughter Lillian (Keith) Bennett of Medicine Hat; and son Keith (Donna) of Lethbridge. Besides his loving wife and r’ ldren, Jim is survived by nine grandchild- ■»nd 13 great grandchildren; two brothers Margaret) arid Robert (Frances) of Castle- ga 3. He was predeceased by one sister Margaret Ston (Elmer) of Hamilton, Montana and a brother William. (Edith) formerly of Fort Macleod. He was a member of the United Church both in Spring Coulee and Magrath; a member of the «spring Coulee AOTS Men’s Club, and the Spring Coulee Coinnun it y Club; the Lethbridge Elks and the Lethbridge Legion. He was a man who gave true meaning to love, kindness, patience and understanding. He touched the hearts of everyone who knew him and was indeed a gentleman. REFORM PARTY OF CANADA - is holding a meeting at the Magrath Senior Centre on Saturday, May 19th at 7:00 p.m. watch for details. The Magrath Store News is pleased to inform it's readers that some new Gestetner duplicating equipment has been acquired and has been in use for the past several weeks. It takes a bit of "getting used to" but the "Store News" hopes that you have noticed an improvement in the paper - a better reproduction and a difference in headings for example. Evelyn is at the controls of the stencil cutting and duplicating machine and she "doodles and plots" the variation in headings ¿and feature cuts, while Norma has a new lettering machine which enables her to print out proper names and headings and saves her a lot of time looking through reams of old papers trying to find them and cut them out and glue them in place. Now all Wes has to obtain for us is an automatic "speller" which will correctly spell and a new typewriter that prints the letters in the proper order. Former Magrath resident Ken Spring of Hamilton, Ont. sent us a clipping of the obituary of another former Magrath resident John Eleyanich who passed away in Hamilton Thursday, April 19, 1990 in his 70th year. John is survived by his wife Mary, daughter Vivian (Frances) Strhavich; sisters Ann and Gladys all of Hamilton. Ken remembers when his father, the late Jack Spring and John's father both worked at McIntyre Ranch many years ago. "They worked 10 hour days, 6 days a week for a dollar a day". If you own an automatic garage door please check the following information from Alberta Consumer and Corporate Affairs. Canadian Standards Association (CSA) is warning owners of LYNX Automatic Dorman, Models 455 and 460 garage door openers to immediately check them to ensure that the safety reversing feature is functioning properly. If the actuator arm of the safety reversing switch is bent, or oriented differently to that of factory setting, the door may not reverse if an obstruction is encountered during the closing cycle. This situation contributed to the death of a five year old child last year who was Trapped under the leading edge of the door. .As a result, CSA is also warning owners to keep children away from areas where these units have been installed, and not to allow them to play with the operating controls. Should the door not reverse, do not attempt to make any adjustments. For service, contact the manufactuer at the following address or telephone number and arrange for authorized service.
