We thank the Mayor, Dr. S.C. ewerton for making available to us he minutes of the very first village eting held in Magrath on September •. 1901: "Minutes of a meeting held Sept. 11, 01 in the Village of Magrath for the irpose of electing a village overseer. Returning Officer J.J. Head explained se nature of the, meeting and asked that chairman and secretary be appointed for e evening. Mr. Z.W. Jacobs was nominated and <cted as president and Mr. R.W. Fletcher secretary. It was moved and seconded that Mr. Z.W. cobs address the meeting for a short ce which he did in a most pleasing and Jtructive manner. He said that there re a number of men in the village who 1 had some experience in this country d we should endeavor to select some rson who had had this experience and who aid be a credit to our new village. Levi Harker then nominated Mr. J.J. id for the office. Nomination seconded Mr, Benjamin Matkin. As the first hour of the meeting had pired and there was but the one nomina-on it was moved and seconded that Mr. J. Head be our first overseer, it was animously carried and Mr. Head was de-ared elected. Information was asked for concerning e duties of the oversser and Pres. Jacobs ¿id some of the laws repecting his duties. / also explained that as soon as his bonds $1,000 were given that the overseer would ater upon his duties.
