CLASS REUNION - 1944 Memories - memories - id what a number of memorii can be stored up over a period of years - forty, thirty - maybe only 5 or so years - that was the experiences of a number of former Magrath classmates as they gathered with their partners for a Class Reunion during the weekend, adding to one of the most active and enjoyable weekends in Magrath for a number of years» Some sixty persons assembled to renew old times, meet wives and husbands of old school mates, relate experiences, and enjoy an evening of fellowship beginning first with a dinner in the Magrath United Church Hall when the U.C.W. catered to a turkey and ham banquet, arranged by Mrs, Ron (Ruth Anderson) Knight of Lethbridge^ Mrs. Art (Lillian Karren) Baldry was in charge of the guest register which was signed by friends from Victoria to Regina, Edmonton to California. Mrs. Jay (Leola Bennett) Christensen of Calgary was Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening and invited former teacher Dr» C. M. Merkley of Edmonton to give the invocation. Following the dinner, a sing-song was enjoyed - old school favorites. Each foimer class mate was then called upon to speak telling where they lived, whom they had married, how many children they had, what they were doing. Mrs. Christensen had some humorous •‘remember when" tales to relate about her classmates, Mrs. Baldry addressed the gather- .‘ir,g reading? ex-. ■ of letters .'from friends who were unable to attend and sent their regrets - and best wishes to those who were attending. Mrs.'Wm. (Rhth Bingham) Nalder read an original composition of "Memories" with Mrs. Genier (Dorothy Tanner) Nielson of Portland, Oregon accompanying her on the piano. In a tribute to her former class-mates and life-long friends, Mrs, Christensen then sang "May You Always Walk With Sunshine" accompanied by Mrs. Nielson-. The class-mates then gathered at the Elementary School Gym for an Alumni Ball to ■ hi ch they had invited everyone, and which was beautifully decorated for the occasion. The Raymond Canadians played for the dancing and the foimer class-mates enjoyed to the fullest renewing further friendships with friends. The Passey twins of Rigby, Idaho were no exception and still kept everyone guessing which was Kay and which was Jay. It was a very enjoyable and memorable event for everyone who had the privilege of attending. The evening concluded with the "Come Coming" celebration for the Magrath-Cardston Parching Band. Those responsible for the Alumni celebration were Leola Christensen, Maxine (Dudley) Bridge, Ruth Knight, T.i ~l ~l i an Baldry, Ruth Nalder, Dorothy Nielson and Norma (Tanner) Woolley o Magrath celebrated the anniversaiy of the town in fine style Monday, July 24th ;ith the full co-operation of the "weather man"o The Magrath Lions Club served a Pancake breakfast to begin the days festivities which was followed by a Mammoth Parade at 10 A.MO The Magrath-Cardston Marching Band gave a thrilling performance prior to the parade.
