MAGRATH NEWS 1 Published Weekly Since 1932 by The Magrath Trading Company 50e June 19, 2002 The Magrath Elementary School held it’s annual Thank-You Assembly on Friday, June 14. Principal, Brenda Beck and Vice-Principal, Bums Alston gave many thank you treats to the teachers, staff, secretaries, council, society and all those who have helped in any way this past year to make it a successful year. A new award that was given this year was for a business in the community that has made a great contribution to the school. The business that was chosen to receive this award was the Magrath Trading Company. Ken & Marge Balderson were in attendance and Marge accepted the plaque that was presented by Mrs. Sharon Hatch. The plaque says, “Westwind Local #12 extends Thanks to Magrath Trading Company for supporting Public Education. With Your Help it Works 2001-2002.” The Magrath Trading Company makes many contributions to the school and the community. This year the new program that they are involved with is the voucher program sponsored by the Magrath Elementary School. This program is a great financial support to the school and individuals. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ C Points of Interest^ * Senior’s News * Employment ♦ Grocery Specials Home Hardware j Inside this Issue: Community 1-3 Sports 4 Classified Ads 6 Calendar 8 Library News 8 Employment 7 Grocery Specials 9-11 Hardware Specials 12 7 Domestic & Commercial Water Haaliei Cistern Cleaning Road Spraying STEELE SHERIDAN RR8-20-18, Lethbridge, Alberta T1J4P4 No Sunday Deliveries Bus: 328-2460 SUE’S ON FIRST HAIR STUDIO Sue’s on First will be closed from June 23 until July 7,2002. Spirit of Alberta Band Program Richard Anderson, Manager of the Credit Union presents a cheque to Jerry Chatwin, Band Director J At Magrath’s final high school band concert, Mr. Richard Anderson, Manager of the Magrath branch of 1st Choice Savings and Credit Union, presented a cheque in the amount of $2,000 to support the Spirit of Alberta band program. 1st Choice Savings and Credit Union seeks worthy community groups which they feel contribute to the quality of life in the communities serviced by the Credit Union. The Spirit of Alberta Marching Band, with its 80 students, represents our community in performances throughout Alberta and the Western United States. Most of the cost of uniforms, instruments, and travel comes from fund raising and donations. This grant will be extremely helpful in meeting some of those expenses. Mr. Chatwin, the director of Spirit of Alberta, expressed his gratitude on behalf of the students, for the very generous grant from 1st Choice. “Our kids work especially hard in summer practices, and parades, and meet every morning at the start of the school year at 7:00 a.m. This extra work prepares them to perfect their performances and represent Magrath, the Province and Canada in its numerous appearances. It’s wonderful to have an organization such as 1st Choice Savings and Credit Union show its support of our young people in this fashion. We are all very gratefill.” 4 / CARDS OF THANKS \ Thank-you We would like to thank the community for their help and support during the flooding of our feedlot and coulee, and for helping get the cattle out We feel blessed to live in a community where people care for one another.
