The worst weed at the fcir Grounds» A orca ping flat leaf plant with a root like wire. Black birds are fond of sunflower seeds. They harvested a field in Welling two years ago. We put the sheep in the field. No seeds, no oat. Black birds also like corn. Hot weather ripens the corn too fhst. Fifteen miles South East of town (Option) is the cow pastures of Taylor Brothers, George and Earl Thomson, F. A. Nelson (formerly Ted Hocking spread) and our own sheep range. Only one late shower "in then thar hills1’ this summer.- Over the years it ruined and snowed there if anywhere. Whiter Taylor is authority for the information that the ridge is 220 feet higher than the Waterton town site. This year it seems there was not enough pressure to force the clouds over the hills. One day while there it was raining to the North, West and South West of us. With the sheep"horder we drove to the highest hill. We tried to flag a few clouds our way but none came. We exerted all'the hope, faith and energy we could muster but not a drop of moisture foil. Buck Ran^i to the North got the rain said the herder later, ** “ ** The scriptures read "If you have the faith of a grain of musthrd seed, you can remove mountains", etc. Rex Meeks has a large field of mustard throe miles North and it receiv— ed several good soakings. Apostle Paul - 1 Corinthians 13:13 "And now abideth faith, hope, charity these three; but the greatest of these is charity", in other words faith is an unknown quantity. We were a large’femily, and all received home, some charity but there was not enough faith to go around. Hail is where it hits. North,"West and East of town no hail reported. Some South, Joe Julia sz reports only three farriers escaped in One Seventeen (West of Milk River) < Old Timers can1# reoall hail there before. " ‘ The StringKam Ranch was hailed out completely three times. We were lucky. Our" alfalfa will make a partial crop but the barley is a total loss. We join Stringhams on the West, ONCE TOO OFTEN , Two town dogs without licenses have gone to the "Happy Hunting Grounds". Night after night they bit, kil1ed and terrorized the sheep of Mervin Thomson and Ken Miller. The Magrath Second Ward Church was filled to capacity Sunday evening August 20th when farewell services were held for Ron Critchfield. Douglas Harker was in charge of the service and Mrs. J, A*.
