How much do you know about the art of getting along with people? Here’s what researchers have learned about this important subject. Q. Is it true that flattery will always get you somewhere? A. No. Studies at England’s University of Leicester found that the way a person responds to flattery depends upon his own self-esteem. If a person feels self-confident, he accepts flattery as well-deserved. But if he has low self-esteem and lacks confidence, he views flattery as undeserved and insincere. Q. Do a person’s looks affect how well we get along with him? A. Yes. Researchers at the California School of Professional Psychology in San Diego found that the more we’re impressed with another’s looks, the more inclined we are to get along with him. Q. Is getting along with people we don’t like a big problem for most of us? A. Yes. Our lives are filled with people we don’t necessarily like, but whom we must try to get along with, according to a study by psychologists at the University of California. They found that when you’re forced to get along with someone vou initially dislike, you wall usually find things that you like about the person if you try. Q. Is your ability to get along with others a true measure of success? A. Yes. In a study of human relationships two University of Massachusetts psychologists made this observation: A person with many achievements can’t be sure he’s a success if he has never had one close relationship. But “anyone who has achieved one relationship-in-depth and has failed in many enterprises can never be considered a failure.” — melinda chait MORE GROCERY SPECIALS JULY 1 - 6 Purex Extra (12 pk) or Purex Bathroom Tissue (24 pk) $8.98 each Ultra Tide (6 liter) or Original (12 liter) $8.48 each Ultra Bounce 90-100 pk $6.98 each Cascade Liquid (1.3 liter) or Powder (1.8 kg) $3.68 each Kraft Parkay Margarine 1.36 kg $2.98 each Kellogg's Eggo Waffles 312g $1.98 each Pillsbury Pizza Pops 448g $3.28 each Western Family Meat Pies 200g .88 each Creamsicles or Popsicles 12 pk $2.78 each Looney Tunes Yogurt 125g .58 each Dairyland Sour Cream 250 ml .88 each Shape Light Sour Cream 250 ml .88 each OPEN HOUSE AND BIRTHDAY TEA FOR MRS.
