This years Magrath Celebration Days was another huge success with so many working so hard to make everything go off without a hitch under the direction of Councilman Russ Barnett. The fun started off on Thursday evening with the Softball Tournament. Included on the roster this year were two Town teams plus Coleman, N. Cook, M. Bourne, K. Balderson, Foggin, C. Alston, and Jim Cook family teams. The final game for Division A championship was on Saturday evening with the C. Alston team raking on the Coleman’s. The C. Alston team came out strong again this year to take the championship. The Parade Saturday morning was great also with lots of great floats, cars, carriages and more. Prizes awarded at the parade were as follows: Family - 1st Harker’s, 2nd Wilde’s. Commercial - 1st Garden City Greenhouses, 2nd SASH. Fraternal - 1st Magrath 4th Ward, 2nd Magrath 2nd Ward. Club - 1st Magrath Soccer Club, 2nd Magrath Museum. Humorous - 1st Centennial Place Cul-de-Sac, 2nd Wayne & Marilyn Gurney family. Motorized - 1st ATB Financial, 2nd Wakefield family. Decorated Group - 1st “Pioneer Group” (Clay Boyes and Patrick Steed families and Hawna Murray), 2nd Tim Sabey family (Bottle Depot). Decorated Family - 1st John and Roxanne Rasmussen family, 2nd Diana Yoshihara family. Novelty - 1st Jessica and Sasha Schneyder, 2nd Tyson and Tanner Murphy. Classic Car - 1st Harry Bullock, 2nd Norris Tomlinson. Antique Car - 1st Mel & Elaine Viergutz, 2nd John & Carol Tunnah. Decorated Car - 1st Ton of Sun (Martha Millward), 2nd Allen & Della Holladay. Decorated Horse and Rider - 1st Dakota, Cheyenne, Sierra, Mesa Passey, 2nd Jason Still. The day ended with a Magic Show in the Tom Karren Gym which delighted all followed by a great fireworks show, bonfire and dance. Thanks to all who made the day such a great success. I Fort Whoop Up -SURPRISE DAILY SPECIALS-Each day Fort Whoop Up presents short dramatic presentations of about 20 to 30 minutes each. Every play features characters and incidents out of history of Fort Whoop Up at 11:30 a.m. or 3:00 p.m. Horse drawn wagon rides are a daily attraction at the Fort. Both short rides and a longer interpretive ride are available. The longer ride tours Indian Battle Park and describes the rich history of the park. New at the Fort are daily pony rides. Trail Rides can also be booked at Fort Whoop Up. Trail rides are all offsite an of varying duration. Regular demonstrations of some of the old time skills that were necessary to keep the Fort running will be in place throughout ¿he summer. Trades such as blacksmithing, wheelwrighting will be highlighted. Each day Fort Whoop Up will feature a surprise Special. Specials will vary and may include everything from “two for one” admission or ice cream cones to selected discounts in the store. The Fort has many activities for children including dress-up and treasure hunts. New this year is steer roping. Fort Whoop Up is going: all out for children this summer. Every Tuesday is “Kid’s Day at the Fort”. Fort Whoop Up’s staff are dedicating each Tuesday to making the holidays a summer of fun. Games, such as “capture the flag” and activities including dress-up and treasure hunts, are but a few of the fun things to do on Tuesdays at the Fort. Kids can take a pony ride or a horse drawn wagon ride. Children can also try their luck at steer roping, arid other old cowboy skills. Kid’s day at the Fort starts at 10:30 in the morning until 1:00 or 1:30 in the afternoon until 4:00 and includes a snack arid drink such as a hot dog and juice or ice cream cone. Arnold was bom March 1, 1931 to Jim and Phyllis in Cardston, AB. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 51 years, Shirley, their children: Kirk (Judy) Godionton, Craig (Sherry) Godionton, Cindee (Peter) Pauls, Darcy Godionton, Wendy Bennett (Rick Parkins), Stacey (Warren) Adamson, Jim (Susan) Godionton, 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Arnold is also survived by his mother, Phyllis Godionton Patching, his brother Melvin (Frankie) Godionton, sisters Mede (Don) Dunbrack, Juanita (Art) Vance, and numerous other family and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Jim Godionton in 1959. SPORTS BASKETBALL ~| Team Alberta Wins First Round Alberta Juvenile Basketball Team has been working hard preparing for the Canadian Men’s National Basketball Championships which began Monday. Allen Tollestrup is playing for Team Alberta Juvenile. The six-foot-four Magrath boy has established himself as a force for Alberta. “Right now he’s our best player,” said coach Mike Connolly. “He’s one of our major scorers and he’s doing a good job of making decisions and helping other guys make good decisions on the floor. He’s been our most consistent player by far.” . Alberta bested Newfoundland in opening play on Monday 99-62 for the Canadian Men’s National Basketball Championship Juvenile at the Lethbridge Community College gym. Tuesday evening Team Alberta took on Team Saskatchewan at LCC. Results were not available at time of printing. Tonight Team Alberta plays British Columbia at 8:30 p.m. at LCC. E Playoffs continue on Thursday with games scheduled according to placing.
