LUNCH CRUNCH Vegetables and fruit add color, texture, and flavor to lunch. Raw vegetables can include green and red pepper strips, zucchini and cucumber spears, kohlrabi or white turnip sticks, and, in summer, even raw green or wax beans, fresh garden peas, and cherry tomatoes. A quick and easy vegetable dip can be made by adding your favorite seasoning blend (Mrs. Dash or Italian herb blend) to plain yogurt. Soft fruits don't pack as well, so cut them up and make fruit salad - to moisten just add orange juice. AN ALTERNATIVE STYLE Nothing as tedious as luncheon meat for sandwiches. Try these alternatives for a flavor lift. Peanut butter with dried apricots, cucumbers, lettuce or sprouts; three bean salad or pasta salad with garbanzo beans and sunflower seeds; or hearty lentil soup on a chilly rainy day. MADE UDDERLY DELICIOUS Milk can be a challenge to pack but fortunately it comes in many forms for lunch time toting. Cottage cheese and plain yogurt make perfect flavor mates for fresh fruit. If you are refused a re-fill, chances are your cylinder is past the re-test date. The re-test date can be found on the cylinder stamped on the top collar by the gas valve. Re-tests can be arranged through most propane filling stations. - Avoid a possible fire or explosion - NEVER light a gas barbecue with a leaking hose, a leaking connection and/or with the barbecue lid closed. - Should a leak or fire occur, turn off the cylinder or natural gas supply valve immediately. - Always light the match before turning on the gas to prevent an excessive gas buildup. - Never move the barbecue when it is lit. - Never use water to control grease flare-ups on gas barbecues. If a flare-up is fierce and long lasting simply turn the gas off and remove the food. The grease will bum off in a few minutes. - Store the cylinder out doors in the shade, NOT inside a building or a vehicle, NEVER store a gas barbecue inside any structure or under a staircase, porch or balcony. - Never store extra propane cylinders under your barbecue. Excess heat may overpressure the cylinder and cause it to release propane from the cylinder relief valve. - WTien transporting a cylinder, secure it in an upright position with a safety plug (a POL plug) in place. Keep the trunk open to allow air circulation. A POL plug will prevent gas leakage when the valve is accidentally turned on, and is available through your local dealer. - Ensure all valves are turned off when barbecue is not in use. Charcoal Barbecues - Use only an approved fire starter fluid. Do NOT use gasoline. Store the remaining fire starter fluid in a safe place. - Be sure that fire starter fluids are not accessible to children as they are poisonous when swallowed. Special child-proof caps are available at your local dealer. - Prevent fire hazards by keeping the barbecuing area free of twigs, dried leaves and paper products such as paper cups, plates and napkins. - Place the charcoal barbecue in a well ventilated area as poisonous gases such as carbon monoxide are released from burning charcoal briquettes. - Before disposing charcoal ash, ensure it is thoroughly extinguished. Live coals or hot embers can start a fire - be extremely cautious! General Information - Keep barbecues away from combustibles such as walls, deck rails, wood balconies, etc. - Use long handled barbecue tongs and brushes to put extra distance between yourself and the intense heat of the barbecue. - NEVER allow children to use or play around a gas barbecue. - Always have available a fire extinguisher, baking soda and/ or water to put out an accidental fire. - Do not wear loose clothing near a barbecue as flaming grease can ignite clothing. /libertà Labour Fire Commissioner’s Office CRYPTOGRAMS - Watch out for ambition!
