CALLING ALL FORMER BAND MEMBERS This meansAnyone who was a member of the Magrath School Bands or anyone who played in a school band in another community How would you like to dust off your embrasure, and renew old memories? How would you like to play in a band again? THINK ABOUT IT ! Wouldn't it be a great idea to put together a community band to perform during the centennial celebration in July? Now don't think of reasons why you CAN'T participate - think of reasons why you SHOULD. We could rehearse evenings in the band room with the doors locked (so no one can hear us until we are ready). I can supply music that is within the ability of anyone - even those who haven't played since school. We can even supply some instruments. Let's have a meeting to discuss it. Call all the old band members you know and talk to them about it. Call me and let me know of your support or fears/concerns. We can do this and it will be a blast! Watch for an announcement for a planning meeting in the near future. Gerry Chatwin. ****** * Sorry about the mixup in dates for the teachers convention. I hope it didn't inconvenience anyone. Tickets from any Rod & Gun Member, or John in Home Hardware. ****** At the Lions Club meeting on February 2, 1999 a cheque for $424.00 was presented to Shirley Paul, president of the Magrath Hospital Auxiliary, as a donation toward the purchase of a palliative care bed for the hospital. This money was the proceeds of the 1998 Community Christmas Card project. The Lions Club wish to thank all who donated toward this project in lieu of sending Christmas Cards. Thanks Warren Wilde, Secretary Magrath Lions Club. Town Council News Town Council is discussing the idea of the reenforcement of a curfew for those 16 years and under. The curfew would be from 12 midnight to 6 a.m. This would mean a $100 fine for the parents for a 1st offence. An official declaration of a new by-law is presently being drafted. Hopefully this will encourage parents to set their own curfews, this curfew would be a way to handle kids roaming around town in the early a.m. hours. *Rod Bly has estimated it will cost around $7,000.00 to fix the town's Y2K problem. *Rod Gibb reported that the M.D. of Cardston can foot $30,000 for a new quick response unit for the Magrath fire dept. The town would then need to come up with the balance of $17,000 for a one-ton flatbed truck. ♦Charlie Bly reported that 250 subscriptions are required in order to publish the book of history of Magrath for the millennium project. ♦Council is allotting $500 for a local production of "The Dream Makers", the play could involve 50 local kids. This would be presented during the centennial presentation. ****** ssdirect@telusplanet.net www.ssdirect.com Box 389, 132 - 2n0 Street SW, Magrath, AB TOK 1 JO Physical Fitness Consulting Specializing In Individualized Fitness & nutrition Programs Information Call Ted Bouvier 75S-3236 www.telueplanet.net/pu Roger Davies voice 758-3577 General Manager fax 758-9174 Mr. Devon Cole Rasmussen passed away Tuesday February 16, 1999 at the age of 35 years.
