This event is unique in Canadian history and every citizen of Alberta should be proud of it. The Speech from the Throne itself was a long and detailed presentation. It is an important document and actually is an outline of the goals and objectives which the government expects to initiate in the coming year. I will list five of the priorities which the gn-gg-rnmAnt feels are important! 1. To reassess the goals and objectives of our basic education. 2. To provide again this year unprecedented funding for the construction of housing. 3. To improve the already high standard of health services in both rural and urban areas. 4; To propose legislation which will ensure the balanced planning and utilization of our land. 5. News two weeks ago - and we thought then, "Does Magrath and District really appreciate what the Trading Co. News has done for us this last fifty or so years”. It has been the only local medium that has given us expression as a community - of the things that have happened here in Magrath and kept us all informed of what is happening. It has been mailed all over this continent to the sons and daughters of Magrath who are living in many places and we have heard many of them say how they look forward for each issue so that they can know what is going on in Magrath. The Senior Citzens thank the store for the great help they have given us during our remodeling of the school into a Centre they have all been so co-operative in helping us find the materials we need. We also want to thank the Tanner Lumber Yard and factory for the great help they have been to us and the many requests we have made upon these twa Magrath institutions for materials and advise. As Senior Citizens we often think of the great contributions that were made to this community by Alfred Ririe and Earl Tanner. The Gym can now be used ahd we hope it is used every week night, of course it will be closed Sundays. We urge groups of not less than ten or twelve persons, with a supervisor of 18 years of age or older to contact Charles Caldwell for time to use the Gym and facilities. While we are remodeling we can use some of L.I.P. funds to pay part of the utilities, so we will experiment with a $5 cost per hour for the groups who use the Gym. With the experience we gain in the next 3 months on the cost of utilities we will try to set a rental figure 4later on that will be; low enough to encourage a 100% use of the Center, yet high enough to pay the utilities, clean-up costs, etc. We are going to need another piano, two more electric kitchen ranges, two more refrigerators, many sofas and chairs. MAGRATH SENIOR CITIZENS. NOTICE: Applications are now being accepted at the Town Office for Seasonal Employment with the Town. This includes Swimming Pool Staff as well as Public Works.
