Three days drive. First rest for calves at ' 100 acre pasture adjoining feed lot. While there lost six Hereford cows; three one night, two the next and one a day later. Veterinarians and Research Station men were unable to diagnose the cause. ' ' They inquired if the pasture had been sprayed for weeds. We told them '’No11 « A week ago the Municipality crew were spraying the roads and highways in“the district. We inquired if they previously had sprayed the road we took with the cows. They said "Yes". The cows and calves were moved immediately and replaced with four truck loads of yearling heifers. Same pasture, no deaths, no ill effects. WHAT KILLED THE COWS? ’ i/Jhy spray brome and crested wheat grass? 99$ of the forage along the highways. Expense around forty to fifty dollars a day. Surely the money could be used to better advantage. A teenager confessed in court here he was driving 40 miles an hour. The judge dismissed the case,' turned him loose. Said the charge was not made out properly. When the Trading Company safe was blown and $900.00 stolen, twenty marked bills were among the loot. The man arrested had some of the marked bills in his possession. The judge' gave him a light sentence - "Stolen money in his possession". No fine for blowing the safe, no one saw him dynamite it* Ken Anderson with two tractors pulling one cultivator on a -g section of soggy summerfallow East of town. Sorry we dichJt think of that a year ago. «*••••• '•. THE WORLD OF HEALTH ' Common cold is linked to salt used too freely in your food* _ FOR YOUR SCRAP BOOK FROM THE "NATIONAL WOOL GROWER" - "Well you can be sure that Thomas Edison never invented the electric light during a coffee break; and happiness often sneaks in the door you never knew was open". ° "Minds are like parachutes; they won’t even function unless they are open. And where all men think alike, no one thinks much". "Service is the rent you pay for the space you occupy in the community and in the great country in which you live - just service. You owe that much back to it". ' "You see, where all men think alike, no one thihks much. But by the same token, the sky is the limit for a man who is willing to think big, who is willing to pay the price, And J willing to make the effort. That man writes his own ticket. He tells his own fortune. Oh, you can always tell them, because a big man always acts that way. That’s the important thing to remember. Isn’t it better to build boys into men? Isn’t it better to take your boy hunting than to go hunting for your boy?" The North and South Primary held a highly successful "Lihoma" graduation party Tuesday ^ftemoon, highlight of which was a comic Fashion Parade presented to Mothers and guests by the Primary girls.
