When you1re visiting the siok in a hospital^ it’s well to keep in mind a few simple basic rules designed to make your visit pleasant for the patient« What’s a good hospital visitor like? Try the following eheoklist on yourself! 1« Never enter a hospital room if the door is closed unless you first ask someone on duty if it is all right to do so« Always observe rule? such as "NO VISITING" or "ISOLATION^ If you plan to visit a hospital patient learn what are the visiting hotirs and rules - ahi obey them. 2. If you find the patient has other visitors, wait quietly in the hall until they leave« Two visitors at a time is usually all a patient can handle« 3« tfhen you enter the patient’s room be cheerful but naturally so. Ifeke your visit short and don’t talk about your ailments. Remember the patient is in the hospital to get well, not to make a social visit- Rest my be part of his getting well. A. BO NOT TOUCH THE PATIENT’S BED. Especially if there are any contraptions attached to the bed. Hospital beds have room for only one - "the patient". Don’t plaee hats, eoats, purses or paper bags on the bed and don’t sit on the bed either. And please - NO SMOKING” there are enough strange odors in a hospital room without adding stale sigarette or eigar smoke to the atmosphere. 5« Stand where the patient can easily see you and shake his hand only if he make? thlp offer! 6. DO NOT VISIT ANY HOSPITAL PATIENT WHEN YOU ARE SICK, 7» Don’t visit too long and don’t whisper outside the patient’s door. Even though he may be in only for a check-up, he may begin to worry needlessly if he hears you. When you enter a hospital you need not walk or tip toe and speak in whispers, but enter quietly - keep your voice down and walk lightly. The sound of metal tapping heels on a marble floor is enough to trigger a headache for some patients* 8* Regardless of what the patient says there are times to leave such as when the doetor comes into the room or when a meal arrives. 9» Remember patients in other teds. Even though your friend may not be too sick, the other fellow may be mighty sick. Loud conversation or "be!ly—shaking” j$kes might not seem so funny to him. 10. Hospital visitors may want to take a gift to the patient. Don’t take food unless it is fruit or some easily eaten treat that meets with the doctor’s approval. Gifts that are Welcome include a new lipstick, stick cologne, fine soap, a bright face cloth and gay hand towel, a box of notepaper with a half dozen stamped envelopes, a ball point pen, a light bedjacket, magazines, the daily paper or a thoughtfully chosen book. A patient in the hospital for a long stay might prefer a jigsaw puzzle or a book of crossword puzzles. For children cutout books or hand puppets. 11. Remember the patient when he is well and has gone home. That is the best time to visit anyway. Marion Bourne, Matron, Ifegrath Municipal Hospital. The Ifegrath Home and School Association held its monthly meeting Monday evening with Rev. H. A. Cantelon speaking on Sex Education. If enough interest prevails, a sex instruction program for both parents and students could be offered here in Magrath on one Saturday. This type of educational program is presently being carried out in several towns in Alberta and has been proven most successful.
