The ifcgrath Civil Defense Or{ ization, under the supervi >n of Mr. Vic Bohnei^ controller and Mr. Charles Ifetkin, deputy, took part in exercise Toosin on Friday Tfey 5th. The alert was sounded at 8:10 and the control room located'Tn the Lions Club Rooms was operatioral at 8:17, the exeroise to continue for 10 hours. Corimunications, in charge of Wayne Robinson, had direct contact with Sone Headquarters In Lethbridge, Also assisting in this section whs Stan Ford, Ed Evans and Wally'Smith. All communications to and from the local control room had to pass through this department. "* Operations was under the supervision of Shelton Ririe with Brenda Coleman and Leitha Leishman as recorders".' All outgoing messages had to have the approv­al of thii officer before being processed. A complete record of all incoming and outgoing mess­ages was recorded here. " Distribution was supervised by Arthur Spencer with Jerry Leishman as assistant. All incoming messages were processed by them and directed to the proper departments for action. The intelligence department, headed by Stan Morris had Stu Van Horn ad assistant with Bernice Anderson as clerk, and floug Harker as plotter. They had control of all messages and compiled a situation report for transmission to Zone Headquarters eveiy three hours. These important happenings were also charted on a blackboard in the control room. The following departments came under the heading of Services and were capably handled by the following: Police — Const. Norman Stearns; Fire - Syl Rariokj Rescue — Walt Pashuk; Health — Dr. Dahl and Barbara Davies; Utilities - Wally Smith; Welfare - Cal Alston assisted by Lucille Gurney, Emra Coleman, Jean Dudley, Blanche Merkley, Miry Dudley and Melva Hocking. Jack Bridge"co~ ordinated Warden services and the following acted'as runners during the day: Blair Meldrum, Greg Anderson, Dickson Morris, Bernie Norton, Norman Robinson, Blair Harker and Richard Blu- m.ell. In the opinion of the controller the operation at this point proved very successful With few difficulties experienced. At a conference following the exercise "suggestions were made to the controller by the various departments for improvements to be made in any future exercises. It was mainly thought that a much Metter warning signal should be given as even some of the staff, who were «waiting the call, did not hear the fire engine siren. Patients in the Magrath Municipal Hospital during the past week included Mrs. Ruth Taylor, Mr. Gerald Wenaas, Mr. Floyd Dennett, Mr. Fred Reil, Mrs. Garda Law, Mrs. Ada Leishman, Mrs. Lillian Minor, Mrs. Louisa Bird and daughter, Johnnie and Susie Cutowski, Mrs. Eva Jensen and son, Kyle Secretan, Mr. Bert Gibb, Rebecca Wijhf, Mr. Luke Muriknmi, Mrs. Christie Harker, Mrs. Muriel Schneidt, Judith Ann Bullock, Mrs. M?.ry Minyfeathere, Mrs, Annie Corliss, Richard Trex- el, Miss Rebecca Wurtz, Mrs. Susie J K Entz and Mrs. Twila Steed. Friend's1 will be sorry to hear of the death of Mrs. Kathryn Scott, wife of Rev. Stanley Scott formerly of Magrath. She passed away last week in Ottawa Civic Hospital, The Scotts resided in Migrath from 1954 to 1957 during which time Rev. Scott was minister for the Nhgrath United Church charge. During the latter part of their stay Mrs. Scott was on the staff of the Magrath Municipal Hospital, She spent 18 years in teaching and administrative duties at the Toronto General Hospital prior to coming to Alb^ta. Elaine Sabey of Champaiyn, Ill, end Sau* Lou Driggs of Calgary were honored guests at a pleasant ”get-to-gether" Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Gloria Alston. "A social evening was enjoyed and tasty refreshments werved to the following ladies: Mesdanes Miry Lou Minor, Darlene Miller, M'.ureen Rasmussen, Tess Gruninger, Shirley Neilson,' Nola Madge of Milk River, Hazel Gorham, Betty Briggs, Jean Passey, Karma Harker and Joyce Campbell all of Leth­bridge, Lucille Blaxr.ll, Ruth Johnson, Eva Marie Harker, Doreen Alston and Gloria Alston.
