The group meets monthly and has a mandate to offer solutions to problems in the community and to communicate with citizens concerning crime, traffic issues, and any other interests that citizens wish to bring to the attention of our police service. All data was collected by Transport Canada over the past two years. - four times as many people are killed’ in traffic accidents occurring in rural areas than are killed in urban centres - seat belt use in Alberta averages at 89% - in Southern Alberta it is much lower, as little as 50% - the 11% of people in Alberta who do not use seat belts account for 51% of traffic fatalities - - in Southern Alberta, 51% of traffic fatalities occur when occupants of a vehicle are not using seat belts - 14% of Alberta fatalities result from failing to obey a stop sign - 1% of Canadian fatalities result from failing to obey a stop sign Let’s consider how we drive and avoid these high risk behaviours.
