Although the Mavericks came out a little short at 8-5 it was a good game. Shots on goal were 33 on Ken Rasmussen verses 14 shots on Raymond's goalie. Scoring for the Mavericks were Matt Johnson (17:48) assists - Tank Anderson and’Kinn Wetherelt. Tyler Ferguson (16:02) assists to Tommy Lee and Ken Robinson. On Friday, December 15th, the Mavericks travelled to Redcliff to play Ralston, 9-2 for RaLSTON. The 7th Annual Magrath Zenith Alumni Basketball Tournament was held December 26th and 27th. Winning the championship was the 1979­1980 team (Brad Karren, captain) which de­feated the 1980-81 team (Bruce Sabey, capt­ain) in the final. Third place medals were captured by the 1983-84 team (John Joe Cook, captain) who defeated the 1985-86 squad (Jeff Stevenson. Mr. Eugene (Geno) Stanek passed away suddenly on December 25, 1990 in St. Michael’s Hospital at the age of 70 years. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth Stanek of Magrath; loving father and grandfather of a son John (Leslie) Stanek of Lethbridge, and daugh­ter, Liz (Kelly) Kerner; grandchildren Jennifer, Janine and Michael Kerner all of Taber. Eugene was born July 24, 1920 in Stary, Saez, Poland. He served in the Polish Army during World War 11 in various countries including Iraq, Pal­estine, Egypt, Persia and Italy. He came to Canada in 1947 and settled in Magrath. Geno worked for the M.D. of Cardston for 37 years. Geno was Vice President of the Polish Combat­ants and the Polish Veterans. Besides his immediate family, Eugene is sur­vived by a brother, John Stanek and two sisters all of Poland, numerous nieces and nephews. Prayers were said Friday evening in Martin Bros. Memorial Chapel. A Funeral Mass was cele­brated on Saturday, December 29, 1990 in St. Bazil s Roman Catholic Church, Lethbridge, with Father J. O'Reilly celebrant.
