Wade first captured a T.K.O. over Todd Rideout of Newfoundland in the second round, the first day of the tournament. The second day he beat Joseph Browning of Ontario with a first round T.K.O. The fourth day of the tournament, Wade's final fight, he lost to Jean- Francois Audet of Quebec. Wade’s next fight will be in Brooks at the end of the month. A A A A A A A SECOND ANNUAL "TREE OF HOPE” We thank all the people that so generously donated to our 'Tree of Hope' project. We raised $4,894.00, which will be used for the comfort and care of the patients in the hospital. Thank you again Magrath Hospital Auxiliary A A A A A A A Magrath School News: Another weekend of excitement has passed through our school. The grade 7 girls and boys both played Monday against Moutain View. Grade 7 girls defeated Mt. View by more than 30pts. These girls have got a lot of talent and play great together as a team. Grade 7 boys also played Mt. View. These boys are also a very talented team, but they had a struggle with Mt. View loosing a very close game 39-42. The top scorers from our team were Matthew Alston with 13 pts and Darrin Bladerson with 12. Our Magrath Pandas were involved in the Cougar Classic Tournament in Cardston last weekend. There first game was Friday evening and the girls had a tough game against L.C.I. They played well but just couldn't pull a win. Then Saturday morning they played Western Canad, from Calgary and played an awesome game and easily won the consolation trophy. Congratulations Pandas you have made us proud. The Zeniths had one league game this weekend and it was against Raymond. With two starters injured the Zeniths new they had their work cut out for them, but they didn't let us down. They played extremely well, fought hard till the bitter end. It was a very tense and close game and the final result was Raymond 80 and Magrath 79. Con't The Daughters of the Utah Pioneers will hold their regular meeting on Monday, Jan. 24th at the Diamond Willow Terrace. There were 9 games in total over the tournament with teams from Okotoks, Raymond, Fort Macleod, Lethbridge, Picture Butte & the host team of Magrath. Magrath's first game on Friday night was a great game against Raymond. With us behind by 3 goals after the second period the team made a comeback and scored 4 unanswered goals to win by a score of 6-5. Goals and assists were by; Adam Mehew 4-0; Tanner Godionton 1-0; Janay Chipman 1-0; Ben Wood 0-2; Dustin Ririe 0-2; Eric Godionton 0-1; Del Thompson 0-1. Our second game against Lethbridge was an easier one with the score 14-5. Goals and assists were; Adam Mehew 7-1; Tanner Godionton 4-0; Ben Wood 1-2; Dustin Ririe 1­0; Robbie Ratke 1-0; Eric Godionton 0-2; Del Thompson 0-3; Jeff Werk 0-1; Sean Stanford 0­1; Kyle Schneyder 0-2; John Vornbrock 0-1. With both wins this put us in the "A" division final against Picture Butte. The "B” division final saw Raymond defeat Okotoks 7-4. The "C" division final saw Fort Macleod defeat Lethbridge by a score of 8-3. Our "A" division final was a real barn burner as we were down by scores of 4-0 and 7-4. With 5:08 left on the clock Tanner scored to bring the score to 7-5 in the third period. We sent out our Power Play line and told them to score 2 more goals so we could tie up the game, and they did it! This put us into over time and the fans were on their feet. With the first 35 seconds gone in over time Adam Mehew scored to win the game for us 8-7. Atom "A" champions in our Magrath Tournament were the Magrath Super "B”. A * **A A A LIBRARY NEWS: The Library has just received their copy of "The McIntyre Liar" by David Bly. This is an exciting work of fiction based on the author's own experiences as a farm hand on the McIntyre Ranch during the 60's. This book is the recent winner of the Alberta Writing For Youth Award. David Bly is a former resident of Magrath and is the son of Doug & Ardath Bly of Magrath. A A A A A A A On Jan 12, 1994, Ferrin Killian, Wes Murphy & Terry Trainer from Magrath and District Ambulance Service and Southern Region Emergency Services Society successfully completed their training as Emergency Medical Responders. The E.M.R. program is approximately a 150 hour course which trains people in all aspects of pre-hospital care. Magrath was the host center for the program which is run at local centers from S.A.I.T.
