NEWS Magrath participants did themselves proud »in the Cardston Festival this year with well over two hundred class and individual entries from this district. We had many winners in individual classes. Performing on the final program Saturday night were the Junior High and Senior High Drama classes with their choric drama num-: bers. Mary Lou Davies and Kathy Gruninger were also featured with their musical theatre number. Becky Bennett was chosen to play a flute solo. ' Band Awards: Junior Performer - Julie Dudley. The ceremony was performed by Elder Nyal A. Fletcher in the presence of family and close friends. A wedding dinner followed at the Cardston home of Afton and Don Shaw,'sister of the groom, hosted by his parents and family. Fifty people enjoyed a delicious meal and an imptompyu ptohtsm by the grandchildren. Tributes were given by Randy Davies and Scott Olsen. In the evening a reception was held'in the Magrath Elementary School gym where Grade Three students under the direction of Jill Shipley and Judy Hoibak performed an original song especially written by Miss Shipley for the occasion. The Sir.galing Choir also performed two numbers. Born September 13th, 1915 and raised in LaPoint, Utah Mr. Ross attended Uintah High School in Vernal, Utah where he was the Valedictorian of his senior class. He married Glenavere Hunting on September 16th 1939. He served in the U.S. Army during the Second World War and was decorated with the Asiatic Pacific and the Purple Heart. He was an active member of the LDS Church and at the time of his passing was a coun­selor in the High Priest Quorum of his’ Ward. Ushers were Bud Strong and Kay Bennett. Organist was Charlotte Fletcher who accomp­anied the choir in the singing of the opening hymn "0 My Father" conducted by Toni Stringam. Invocation was offered by son James Thomas Ross. Another son, Bishop Eugene Dale Ross Jr. gave the biography followed by a vocal quartet "Going Home by Bessie Cook, Moyle Pilling, Glenn & Charlotte Fletcher accompanied by Carol Lowry. Speaker for the service was Warren Harris. Carol Dainard sang "Abide With Me 'Tis Eventide" accompanied by Alma Davies. Concluding speaker was Verdel Saxton. The closing hymn by the choir was "God Be With You". The benediction was offered by Tony Lynn Ross another son. Honorary Pallbearers were the Third Ward High Priest Quorum. Active Pallbearers were Jay Marsden, Rick Marsden, Ken Byam, Eugene Dale Ross Jr. Randy Marsden, Robin Marsden, James Thomas Roos and Tony; Lynn Ross. Albert Joseph Niedzwiecki (RTD), beloved husband of Mrs. Marjorie Niedzwiecki of away near Princeton, B.C. on while on a motor trip to the Born, raised and educated Supt. First come - first served basis. ■ MAGRATH & DISTRICT MINOR HOCKEY Magrath & District Minor Hockey held their annual Banquet on Thursday, April 10th at the Magrath United Church with the meal catered by Ranch-land Catering of Milk River. Garth Veale was M.C. for the event and introduced the guest speaker, Mr. Dave Snopek, a former Bronco and winger for the New York Rangers. Mr. Snopek is now assistant coach for the University of Leth­bridge hockey team as well as partner in a sport­ing good store in Lethbridge. Dave impressed upon the boys and parents the necessity of having a good education to fall back on once your hockey career is over as most hockey careers have a very short life span. Dow passed away at Lethbridge Regional Hospital Sunday, April 13, 1986 at the age of 86 years. Born in Branch, Michigan, May 8, 1899, he came to Alberta with his family in 1908. He was a school teacher and principal at Magrath Elementary School for 42 years. Mayor of Magrath in 1966. Predeceased by his wife Zelpha in May of 1968, he is survived by his four children, Nadine (Gordon) Forsyth of Arlington, Virginia, Elaine (Luchlan) Fleming of Calgary, Kay (Wilda) Dow of Kelowna, B.C. and Roy (Florence) Dow of Calgary; 19 grandchildren, 22 great grandchild­ren; a sister Irene Minion of Calgary and dear friend Helma Skundberg of Lethbridge. Funeral Services were held Wednesday morn­ing, April 16th in the Lethbridge LDS 10th Ave. Chapel with Bishop Harold Tanner offic­iating. Graveside service and interment took place at Queen's Park Cemetery, Calgary.
