Nurses (and where would you go ■uo find better ones) keep '^winding me that I should write something. The only comments Ik .ce about are what I see» Jne nurse even suggested that I write a history of my life - tha^last thing I want to see in print. Another wanted to know what was my philosophy of life. If I had a philosophy in life, it was to try and keep two jumps ahead of ray creditors. My directions are all turned around here. I thought they must have brought me in feeS first but Ted Hocking assures me I walked in on my own power. I must be in a room on the South wing of the building. I was very fortunate. From the position of the bed where I am lying hour after hour, through a small window, I have a beautiful view. Two modern residences of Nick and George Ponomar, Sometimes I see a man with a hoe. I am forbidden to use a hoe so that doesn’t hurt my feelings. Sometimes I see boys playing ball and at times little girls dressed in their Sunday best, some on tricycles encircling their homes. I know the Ponomar Brothers and am looking forward to meeting their wives. They must be splendid home makers. I know I should be worrying about something - but whatI THE MORNING AFTER THE NIGHT BEFORE Strange sights on the streets of Magrath these daysj Main street dug up from one end to the other. New curbs and water mains are being replaced in preparation for the forthcoming hard surface. At 6 A.M. a 1951 Blue sedan was found end up in the trench in front of the Magrath Trading Co. In broad daylight the car had passed two 15’ barriers, smudge pots and dirt mounds to take a nose dive to the bottom of the 12 ft. deep trench. How they got out nobody knows. ' later they were heard muttering "’Twas the Government’s fault I No sign upll Town’s faultf’ No bones broken and the occupants were found sleeping soundly - dreaming of the "Happy Hunting Grounds". , Friends will be interested in hearing that a former native son of Magrath, Douglas Godfrey, has been appointed to the position of Senior Research Engineer, greases and Industrial Lubricants Section with Standard Oil of California. Douglas received his B.S. in chemical engineering at Utah in 1942 and after war-time service in the Array began his career in lubrication research with NACA at Lewis Research Laboratory in Cleveland and advanced to the position of Aeronautical Research Scientist specializing in friction, wear and high teirper- ature lubrication problems, His investigation of solid film lubrication from 1944-1950 initiated commercialization-of this method. He joined Calresearch in 1955 engaging in research of fundamentals of friction and wear and has contributed significantly to the development of products requiring special friction control properties. Douglas has published 21 papers in his field and in 1956 received the Hunt Memorial Award of the American Society of Lubrication Engineers for the best paper on lubrication. He has contributed to a handbook on lubrication and has fulfilled many speaking engagements as a national authority in his field. In his new position he will continue in research.
