Two women who had not seen each other for some time met on the street. "Why Sally,” said one, "I see you got a new fur coat after all, I thought you said your husband couldn’t afford it," "He couldn’t", replied the other, "but we had a stroke of good luck, John fell'‘and broke his collar bone and the insurance company paid him $500.00«. The following is anothv_ in the series of essays _eing published which won recognition in'the Chamber of Commerce Essay contest. It was‘written by Richard Poulsen, * * ? , . " *- COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT, ’* Migrath" needs improvements, As we live in a progressive era we must progress and so must our community in order to keep with the tines, Magrath, although it has advanced in the past, has much room for future advancement, ' As you all know Ifegrath is the so-called garden city. At the present it is fer from this and in order to live up’‘to this name we need to improve in the beautification aspect. Our roads if transformed’"from their present rough Shape into smooth, well maintained streets would add much to our community’s beauty. Furthermore I think we should take advantage of pavement if the opportunity ever arises for nothing can add more to the appearance of a community than clean, paved streets, Ifegrath’s looks could be greatly enhanced by the installation of additional sidewalks' and curbs. As Magrath can achieve new found beauty only by working as a whole I think more campaigns and encouragement should be given to the public to beautify their yards. Possibly Migrath’s biggest drawback is the”fact that ft does not contain sufficient industry, therefore it is in this line that we most need improvement. More industries mean a better community for numerous reasons. As industry'’expands so does the income of the town resulting in adequate funds to provide for new improvement and advancement, NeW industries attract new people and give the unemployed work making for a progressive community. If Migrath is to progress it is going to require a lot of concentrated effort on all of'our parts. I feel we should all support and help our town council and mayor in their campaigns and endeavors to make Ifegrath a better place in which to live.
