A GOOD PLACE TO TRADE The Magrath United Church Women will hold a house-to-house canvass in Magrath on Tuesday, September 26th to raise funds for the Canadian Arthritis Society. The Canadian Arthritis and Rheumatism Society spearheads a nation-wide attack on arthritis including; research and education; Rheumatic Disease Units at leading hospitals and information and direct patient care. The aim of this neighbour-to--neighbour appeal is to give every citizen of Magrath an opportunity to join the attack of this baffling group of diseases.-, It is no res­pecter of persons, anyone is susceptible, uvea children., Arthritis is a crowd of symptoms; a collection of aches and pains afCecting the muscles, bones and joints. Everyone knows someone with arthritis and by contributing to this campaign they will be doing something to help a friend, neigh­bour or perhaps someone in the family. More ¿han one in every 20 Canadians suffers from some form of rheumatic disease. Anyone wishing to volunteer their serv­ices please contact Norma Owens, ARTS & CRAFTS NEWS Ceramics classes will re-open on Wednes­day, September 20th, We will be open from " P,M„ to 10 P.M. Afternoon from 2 to 4 PM for adults not wishing to come at night, 4 ? M„ to 6 P.M. for school children; 6:30 to 10 for adults. All members are asked to pay last years bills before starting this year. Anything not claimed by October 15th will be disposed of. '^e need the room, Since 1847, July 24th has been known and honored as Pioneer Day. In 1900 the Magrath Pioneers honored that day. For 72 years it has been celebrated and on the 24th of July 1907, Magrath was inaugurated as a town. The two holidays were made one. People in Magrath are protesting the changing of this day. Friends are sorry to hear that Mrs# Handley is very seriously ill in the Leth­bridge Municipal Hospital. Mrs, krde11a Bennett and daughter Geneal attended the wedding Saturday of her son Glen which took place in the Idaho Falls Temple. The Magrath and district Lions Club held the opening event of the season in the form of "Ladies Night" in the Lions Club Room with President John Moors pre­siding» A delicious supper was served by Mrs» Leitha Leishman» Guests of honor were District Governo:. and Mrs, Gordon of Missoula, Montana.» Lion Tamer Howard Fletcher led the gathering in a lively sing-song and Mrs, Charlotte Fletchei’ entertained with a medley of accordian selections which were much enjoyed. District Governor Gordon was the guest speaker of the evening and his topic dealt, with World-wide Lionism» A presentation of a lovely sheepskin rug to the District Governor and his lovelj wife was made by President Moorse Christian D. Peterson passed away in Raymond, Thursday, September 7th at the age of 94 yearso Born in Huntsville, Utah, he came to Canada in 1901 and was sheep foreman for the Knight Ranch before taking up farming and ranching at Welling» He is survived by his wife retta of Ray­mond, one son Vern of Welling, four daugh­ters Mrs» Alex (lyda) Poulsen of Magrath, Mrs., Ethel Rabidou of Calgary, Mrs» Melvin (Elnora) Sabey of Nanaimo, B„C» and Mrs» J Bean (Gladys) Gibb of Edmonton, 12 grand­children; 23 great grandchildren, and two sisters both of Salt Lake City, Utah.
