LaVaun Thompson! "We are building a new home. Our present house was built in 1903 by Johnny* s father, John Thompson. He was a bachelor then, married in 1920, Eleven rooms and a full atic, It lacked a woman’s touch. "Why so many rooms?" "He needed a big crew. Farmed two sections of land with horses". Then John needed around fifty horses. Twenty five teams. Our father farmed a section and he had twenty five or more work horses. CONSTABLE NORMAN STEARNS No longer Town Constable, but purported to be Brand Inspector. This is probably nore down Norm* s alleys Inspector — one who looks and examines carefully and critically. Norman will discover there is more to it than just inspecting the cows and ponies of members of the town eoun— ®il. ' ' David Leishman, brand inspector, recently called us and asked if we had lost a horse. We described the animal. "Your mare is here in the stock yards, Lethbridge. Come and get her". She was one of a carload being shipped out of the province. The owner of the animals said he had purchased her from a man who had bought her out of a certain stray ’ pound. We talked to the pound keeper and he told us she never had been impounded there. He had no record of her. The mare was stolen. We have had our share of cattle rustling also. A cowhide with our brand, not long ago was found at the St. Marys Dam. It had been thrown over and caught down below on a Concrete pillar. Cattle rustling is big business these days. Inspector - the word occurs frequently in our memory* Years ago we applied for a loan from the Bank of Montreal! The manager had to write Bank of Montreal head office. They wanted more information* We don’t know what the manager’s reply was* It is so long ago' we don’t know if the loan was granted* One can’t get very far if he hasn^t a good Credit, trustworthy, etc. A new manager at the bank later looking through the files ran‘across the previous correspondance with Montreal regarding'our application for the loan. They wanted to know: No* 1 - Is he a good inspector? No.2 - Does he inspect often? He read the other dozen questions for us but these two we have never forgotten. Does he inspect often? our favorite , I faint We sang one of When in the sultry glebe Or on the thirsty mountain pant, To fertile vales and dewy meads ' My weary, wandering steps he leads, ' Where peaceful rivers, soft and slow, J.O. Bridges "You should have been to church Sunday, hymnss The Lord my pasture will prepare And feed me with a shepherd’s care; His presence will my wants supply, And guard me with a watchful eye. My noonday walks he will attend _ . And all my silent midnight hours defend.
