Summary:An archive of the Magrath Trading Store News. The University of Lethbridge Library received permission from the Wes Balderson to digitize and display this content. □ GROCERIES 4 HARDWARE 34 DRY GOODS 124 . .FricH.y, September PHOMEJ: OFFICE 21 Maggath, Alberta. When lightening hit at the Mlntyre Farm 7000 bales of alfalfa bay went up in smote, .*••••••«• Bob Sera asked to have his cheque casted. (§169«O°), It was Mctey Porter's (one tore foreman atbthe McCIityre Rim), Bob says Mickey fams six sections East of Waanee, "Wh^1t did you ’ qiULt for"? "I got fired”. "Whit for". The rin of the truck crystalized whhle loaded with wheat. There is always two sides to every story, Whit is M.ckey's, We notice that one Tauber of the Town HU, since the Assessors left, is doing sane painting, There is probably a difference of from §500.00 to §1000.00 in one's assessment before and after a paint job. The reason no doubt why seme hone—owners never paint. We think it woodd be in order for stleeene to volunteer to give the nrnbbrs of the OGiunc! a FREE ride up mi in street, Enjoy that §800,00 oil spraying investmenn, Byron Tanner and son Cheeter and grandson motored to town. (Didn't fly), No landing strip, Chester wanted to see the house where he was born, (Now owned by Rita Gibb), This was before the town mowed the weeds. The rolling hill-side to the street is very beauutfu. when kept mowed and watered. One of the better locations in town, Byron is now in the sheep business, Ratepayers shouLd be urged to resist as they would the devil any further moves to increase their assessnent, The present assessment is ono-third too high now. It is agreed that most High School Students should be in High Chars, Mrgaret Ririe, grade four school teacher, had the misfortune to burn her right hand. She lit a natch to ignite the pilot light in the furnace and when it didn't light, she’ lit another mtch and then there was an explosion, Her am and hand protected her face, Theysay you should wait at least ten ro.nutes before L^L^£^ht^z^e^g a second natch. As a school teacher we are told she has very good control, Very essenntal, Ifeny in the school profession have voices that run high and loud, Maggart's voice is soft, gentle and low, A speedy recovery we hope, A good right am is a "must" with grade four pupils, Woord was received in Magrath Monday evening of the death of F0 Leo Shhlley "Lin" Coleman, He was killed Monday while landing his ^abr-jet fighter plane at an Italian air base in Sard nja, FC Colman was the son of M*. and Ms, Leo Colenan of Marrth, He was 35 years of age. He was born, raised and educated in Maggath and served with the RCAF overseas as a pilot during the Second World 'Wa, Following the war he attended the UInvirgity of ALbertt and was admitted to the bar in 1950, He rejoined the RCAF in 1951 and had been stationed in Germany during the past three years, He was one of the first Caamdlans to beccme a jet flight instructor in 1953, His wife, the former Verna McPhrson lives in Gernany with their two daughters Deborah and Bartem. Also surviving is one brother Allan with the R,C»A.F, Headcquaters in Ottawa and two sisters, Ms. Paatricia Firielt of Richland, Wsh, and Ms. Ruth Smith of Pu^Uup, Waah. Mrs, Colenan and daughters are being flown to Canada from Germany soon, Mr, Patricia Figiola and Ms, Ruth Smith arrived Wedmsday to be with their parents, M*, and Ms. Leo Thhir son Allan wwil arrive Friday, M, and Ms, John Eianis and Ellen of Ednonton and Ms. Annie Talhawuch of Vernon, B.C, were weekend visitors at the hone of Mr, and Mrs, Steve Iandy and family, Stan Moris, manger of the Bank of Montreal was elected president of M.agrath and District Chamber of Comeece at a re-organizati^o^n meeting recently.
