The following is an essay' entered In the Chamber of Commerce contest on the topic of improving one1*s community. It is written by Sheryl Rasmussen, grade 9 student of Del Bonita. WHAT OUR COMMUNITY NEEDS AND Mi REASONS -FDR SO THINKING. - Our community needs many things, sone of which are very important to the future Sf the domnunity. One important need is conservation. We need shelter belts in our**fields and reservoirs to hold the water from the "spring thaw for future use. Contour faming would keep some of the water from eroding the soil and making big, deep ditches where it runs across the fields. Another thing oUr community needs is a park* We already have a kitchen down by the river/ a tall park/ a skating rink, and a roping areas, but, these are all situated in different places. If the four were combined we would have a recreation centre with about half a dozen different sports. The roping arena, the bajl. park, and the Skating rink could easily be moved down by the river. Where it**is now, the skating rink is on low, soft marshy ground, is difficult to freeze and catches a lot of snow. The roping arena is so out of the way, that no one knows where it is. With a few trees, some shrubbery and a few flowers, the park could look very nice. With this park We could have more visitors from other communities and more from our own community. We should also have a swimming pool. The river could easily be dammed up and a backwater made. There could also be a playground for the children, including swings, sandpits and teeter-totters. This, too, should be down by the river. One factor we should carefully consider is social punctuality. When an event is advertised to start* at a certain time, - it should start on tine/ With these improvements, our community could work together, and Ifn sure everyone would be happier, and this*would lead to the development of more community spirit. Six more essays will follow in our editions. . MC INTIRE RANCH ranch. Too many ca*11 Ri-.q, hose.
