The undersigned conducted the annual inspection of the Town of Magrath on August 9th and 19th, 1984. I offer the following comments as a result of the inspection: (a) Section 62 (2) of the Municipal Government Act provides that the Treasurer shall submit to the council monthly or at any other time council prescribes a correct statement of the money standing to the credit or debit of the municipality. It - ’-e usual practice for council to be promonthly statement of the financial . ce of the municipality. In the case of Magrath, financial statements are provided sporadically. I recommend council adopt a policy where monthly financial statements are provided by staff. I further recommend that council adopt a policy whereby, council monitors m a quarterly basis the disbursements actual^ j incurred as compared to the amount budgeted for in the current year'8“estimate. (b) Section 68 of the Municipal Government Act states that a council shall not later than April 1 in any year appoint one or more auditors to examine the financial statements of the municipality. To date, the Town of Magrat'* has not appointed an auditor for the year 1984. It will now be necessary for the Town to apply to this office for a Ministerial Order extending the time which an auditor may be appointed. Except for the foregoing, the Town is well managed and council and staff are to be coii^ratulated on a job well done. ' Tua Town continues to enjoy a favourable "net cash" position and council is encouraged to maintain that position. Warren Young, Municipal Inspector. A CUT ABOVE THE REST An inept barber was shaving a one-armed man and kept nicking him. When he finished the shave, the barber asked, “Haven’t I shaved you before?” “No,” said the man, “I lost my arm in a sawmill accident.” The Magrath & District Lions Club held their opening meeting of the season in the form of a hamberger/corn roast at Jubilee Park Tuesday, September 18th. There was a 100% attendance of members and their wives who enjoyed a tasty supper under ideal weather conditions. Fred Strate presided at the installation of the new slate of officers which included: President - Allan Skretting; 1st Vice President - Garth Veale; 2nd Vice President - Fred Strate; Secretary Treasurer - Heiki Ojala; Directors - Erwin Raasch, Hans Raasch, John Bourne and Elmer Alexander.
