MAGRATH NEWS Published Weekly since 1932 by The Magrath Trading Company 30 cents WEDNESDAY, February 22nd, 1995 TADPOLES HOCKEY: Magrath Tadpoles were in a hockey tournament on Feb. 11, in Cardston. The first game we played Cardston, they won 5-4. Scorers were: Cole Barnett with a hat trick, Callan Gaff 1-0, Shaun Ragan 0-2, Casey Hillmer 0-1, Cole Schneyder 0-1, Todd Brandham 0-1 & Layne Gill 0-1, Cole Barnett received the Hustler Award. We played against Arby's from Lethbridge the next game. The score was 7-2 for Arby's. Goals & Assists were made by: Cole Barnett 1-1, Todd Brandham 1-1, and Cole Schneyder 0-1 and Shaun Ragan 0-1. Hustler Award was given to Callan Gaff. Then we played another Lethbridge team, with them winning 7-2. Scores were made by: Cole Barnett 1-1, Layne Gill 1-0, Todd Perks 0-1, Jeff Ripley 0-1, and Callan Gaff 0-1, Jason Ragan received the Hustler Award. The boys skated real well & worked really hard. Topics discussed will include physical and emotional development, infant nutrition, childhood illness and safety as well as others. A Aft & Kenneth Richard (Dick) Matson - passed away Wednesday, February 1,1995 at Southland Nursing Home, at the age of 86 years. He is survived by his sisters: Mrs. Verda (William) Metcalfe and Miss Vilda Matson of Lethbridge and Esther Toomer of Magrath; one nephew, Roy Clouse and his family of California, U.S.A. and sister-in-law Mrs. Hertha Matson of Lethbridge. Dick was predeceased by his parents, Roy and Clara Matson; and two brothers; Robert and Clarence "Dutch” Matson. Dick worked on the family farm until August 1933 when he was stricken with polio. He has been confined to a wheelchair for sixty-one years and has spent the past fourteen years at Southland Nursing Home. He was liked by all and was known for his cheerfulness. He had a great love for flowers, sports and agriculture. Dick was president and spokesman for the Southland Resident Organization, a director on the Handi-Bus and while at the farm, secretary treasurer for the LaPrairie Telephone Company. He received a plaque and clock for his outstanding commitments as Presidents Council from 1982-1993 from Southland. Service was held on Monday, February 6, 1995 in Martin Bros.
