DISTRICT AGRICULTURISTS NEWS Snow Versus Water for Cattle: According to a study carried out by animalscientists at the U. of A., cows will consume snow in an amnim-t-ecruivalent to that ohtainted -Prom a mce-a-^av watering after an adaptation period of up to a week. Fteed intake and weight gains were found to be similar for the cows that received snow and those that received water. In spite of the energy cost to the animal to melt snow to water the average weight gain, which was presumably associated with the developing fetus and uterint growth, was the same in the experiment regardlei of whether the cows consumed snow or drank watei Studies will continue at the University to further evaluate the potential energy cost to the animals and find out what precautions should be taken.
