Fieldtrips around Magrath have been planned for the Spring in which members will learn to identify plants in their natural settings, and samples will be collected of each variety and mounted for display purposes. Members will be charged $1.00 per lesson, non-members $1.25, Classes are held each Friday evening in the Arts & Crafts Centre at 7 P.M, Pottery classes for Adult s follow from 8:30 to 10:00 P.M. Magrath United Church Women are sponsoring an informative envening on "Canada Pension x^an, Old age Security, Guranteed Income Suppliment", etc, when Mr, "Rollie" Stewart af the Lethbridge District Office will be in attendance to speak and answer questions togeth­er with Manager J.C. "Fem" Bouchard. The meeting will be held in the United Church Hall uesday, March 6th at 8 P.M0 All interested men and women are invited to attend, .-TTENTION U.C.W. MEMBERS — a short business meeting will precede the general meeting, members please attend at 7:15 P.M. On Wednesday, February 21st, the Magrath A and B basketball teams travel 1 aH to Catho­lic Central High School to play their last league games. Ths* Eagles p»l ~l eri through with a victory for Magrath 51~35» Jim' Holladay made 18 points with Ron Harker a close second netting 17 points. The Magrath Zeniths were less fortunate and took their worst beating of the season, o John Balderson and Neal Harker made a valiant effort with 19 and 11 points respect­ively. The Zeniths finished third in the league, the Eagles finished fourth. Both teams made the league playoffs which will take place at the University of Lethbridge March 1. 2, and 3rd. ’ The January meeting of the Del Bonita 4 H Sew & Sew Club was called to order with 8 members present. The puedge and "0 Canada" were led by Deanne Henry and Rosal 1 a Juhasz. Money-making ideas were discussed after which the meeting was adjourned, "God Save the Queen" was sung. Projest work was done prior to the meeting. ‘ After two hours of project work, President Connie Hillmer called to order the Febru­ary meeting of the Del Bonita 4 H Sew & Sew Club with 10 monbers and 1 Visitor present. The pledge and "0 Canada" were led by Carrie Bowen. There was a disnnssion ^r a night— on-the-tnwn after a tour in April, Tips on public speaking were given by the leaders, "uod Save the Queen" was sung afterwhich the meeting was adjourned. Rosella Juhasz, Club Reporter. „ William Bruce Balderson, aged 77, passed away February 26th, beloved husband of Mrs. Chlora Balderson of Okotoks and formerly of Magrath, Born in Iowa, Mr. Balderson came to Magrath in 1909 where he farmed until 1946, mov­ing to Calgary where he resided until moving to Okotoks in 1956. Survivors include his loving wife, Chlora, a daughter Miss Gladys Balderson of Calgary, two sons Stuart uf Picture Butte and Allan of Okotoks; eight grandchildren and 3 great grandchildrenj twc brothers Gladstone of Lethbridge and Fell of Magrath, ” Private family services Were held from Snodgrass Funeral Chapel, High Kiver, Wed­nesday afternopn, at 1 P.M. with Rev. J.C. Gardner officiating. Interment took place in Mountain ^iew Memorial Gardens, Calgary, ’ Mrs. Ahafia Ponomar passed away in Magrath Friday, February 23rd at the age of 71 years, beloved wife of the late Juchym Ponomar, Bom in Raised in the Ukraine, she came to Canada in 1949 to the Magrath district where she had resided until her passing. She is survived by two sons George and Nick Ponomar both of Magrath; three daughters Mrs. D. (Alexandra) Minovich and Mrs. S. (Helen) Shakin both of Lethbridge, and Mrs. A. (uary) Sereda of Shaughnessy; 16 grandchildren; one sister and one brother in the Ukraine. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, February 27th in the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church, Lethbridge, with Rev. Father L. W. Diachina officiating. Interment took place in Mountain View Cemetery. • • • ••••• Mr. and Mrs. Boran Sorenson (ne Ellen Reil) of Provo, Utah are the proud parents of a son, Shawn Gregory, bom February 20th. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Fred Reil of Magrath. Mr. and Mrs« Art Mikadc (ne Valerie Balderson) of Lethbridge are receiving congratu­lations on the birth of a daughter. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Balderson of Picture Butte and Mr. and Mrs. Mark Mikado of Lethbridge. _ Mr, and Mrs. Ron Ehlert of Calgary take pleasure in announcing the birth of a daughter. Therefore be it restlved that the Alberta Provincial Government lend their full supp— ort in rebutting any further proposals of elevator and/dr rail line abandonment,- Magrath and District Chamber of Commerce. ••.**.*• A Lovely wedding was solemnized in the Alberta Temple, Cardston, Saturday, February 17th at 10 A.M* when Bonny JaLeine, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. S* C. Brewerton and R.D. Bob West, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon West of Cardston were united in marriage. Pres. J, Golden Snow performed the marriage «eremony. ■* Following the wedding, a wedding breakfast was held at the home of the groom's parents in Cardston with a short, informal program taking place. __ Saturday evening, February 24th, the Magrath Elanentaiy School Gymnasium wa3 beauti­fully decorated for a Calling Reception honoring the bride and gro<ri when relatives and friends gathered to offer their congratulations and best wishes to happy couple,, among those in attendance were the many former students and students of the groom. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Beck of Taber, brother—in—law and sister of the groom, Mr,, and Mrs. Ivan Nelson of Lethbridge, grandparents of the bride, and Mr. and Mrs. Conway Brewerton of Edmonton, brother and sister-in-law of the bride received the guests. Miss Stephanie Dow of Calgary presided at the guest register. Attending the bride were her sister Marci Brewerton as mai$ of honor, and Stephanie, Karen and Kanani Nagai as bridesmaids, Soatt Olson of Salt Lake City was best man and groomsmen were Ken Smythe, Bryne and Courtney Brewerton, brothers of the bride. Hosts and Hostesses for the occasion were Mr. and Mrs. Ted Haynes and Mr. and Mrs, Watson Ririe. A lovely buffet luncheon was served with Mrs, Melva Christensen in charge and Mrs, Margaret Sabey supervising the kitchen. Mrs. Loretta Nagai assisted with the prepara—• tions and Mrs. Barbara Ririe was in charge of decorating. A wedding dance concluded the evening with music supplied by Bill Meyers. Mr. and Mrs. West will reside in Magrath where he is on the teaching staff of the Magrath High School. a wedding of interest to Magrath residents took place in the Bow Island United Church Friday, February 16th when Sheila Robertson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Robertson of Bow Island became the bride of Pat Stearns, son of Mr. and Mrs. Noiman Steams of Magrath. Following the wedding a Reception/Dance took place in the Bow Island Legion Hall. amo*g the relatives attending were the grèoms parents Mr, and Mrs. Noiman Steams, Mary, Nôimabelle and Tim of Magrath, Mr* and Mrs. Jim Steams and Mr. Mark Steams of Ednonton and Miss Lorraine Stearns of hernie, The happy couple will make their home in Calgary where the groom is employed. "We" are the citizens of the Town of Magrath. We need a race track. We need a Grandstand. We need jumping standards. We need fences. We need all of these things before July 24.
