I25 »UNO BEEF . ,69' PORK HOCKS . , 49' SLICED CAPITOL REPORT — Johnny Thompson One of the bills that was passed in the Spring Session of the Legislature was the Stray Animals Act. As a member of the caucus committee on agriculture I had an opportunity to help draft this new bill. It is acknowledged that the old system of pounds and poundkeepers was not working and that some changes were needed. ■ In this act the local pounds are abolished and the stray animals are taken to a livestock market or stockyard. The owner of the stray stock, if it is possible, will be notified that if the expenses owing against the stock are not paid within fourteen days the stock will be sold by public auction without further notice. In this act a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police is an authorized inspector. In the case of animals straying on private land the owner of the land may capture and confine the strays. He must however notify an inspector within forty eight hours of the capture. He may choose to have an inspector capture the strays. In section three the owner of livestock or domestic fowl is allowed to kill any dog caught in the act of worrying or destroying his livestock of domestic fowl. . The above is a brief outline of some of the important sections of this act and there are man-y more sections in it. I would suggest to those people who are having problems in regard to stray animals to send to the Queens Printer, Edmonton, for a copy of this act.
