Summary:An archive of the Magrath Trading Store News. The University of Lethbridge Library received permission from the Wes Balderson to digitize and display this content. MAGRATH NEWS Published Weekly since 1932 by The Magrath Trading Company 30 cents WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 17, 1993 Magrath Bantam: Our third exhibition game was against the Lethbridge Hurricanes in Magrath on Friday, Nov. 5. This was our second meeting and again we were victorious 92. The tone of the Hurricanes game was much more subdued than the first. On the other hand, Magrath's game was rougher. Of 29 penalty minutes^ 21 were unnecessary. Our goalgetters: Joey Zomber 2; one each - Tyler Ferguson, Kurtis Robinson, Kinn Wethereit, Ryan Ripley1, Sean Baines, Dustin Godionton, and Lorne McKelvey. Assists: Lorne McKelvey 2; Dustin Godionton 2; one each - Greg Henry, Tyler Ferguson, Ryan Ripley, Kinn Wethereit, Kurtis Robinson, and Gavin Beck. Novice Hawks: On Saturday, Nov. 6th the Magrath Novice Hawks hosted the Raymond Novice I team. Aaron Ragan made his debut in net and came away with a 6-4 victory, making some pretty awesome saves. With one player missing, a rotation of the lines was necessary to give each player equal ice time. This rotation kept both the opposition and the Hawks on their toes, not to mention how it improved our offside calls! We would like to welcome Dustin Godionton to our team after a year and a half off the ice. It's great to see you back and in such fine shape. Our next scheduled league game is here in Magrath on Sat. Nov. 20th at 2pm, when we meet Brooks I. Why not come out and watch us play! Due to the stats person being in the concession, no shots on net are available. However, the goal getters were: the man of the hour Denver Wethereit managed to have his #17 show up on every line of the scoring section of the score sheet as either a goal or an assist - Denver had 2 goals and 4 assists. Peter Lee 2 - 1; Layne Barnett 1-1; Doug Mehew 1-1. ******* We at the store news were happy to hear of Dennis Morton's exciting win at the Canadian Finals Rodeo in Edmonton. Dennis was 3rd going into the finals. He placed 4th on his first steer with a score of 68. He won the next three go-rounds with a 77, 79, and 80. Sat night he placed 3rd with a 71. On his last ride he got a bad draw but came out victorious, winning the boy's steer riding. At an awards banquet on Sunday he was presented with a bronze plaque, a gold and silver buckle, trophy spurs and $1700. Dennis is the son of Everett & Karen Morton, and is a grade 8 student at the Del Bonita school. Every team in our school had a tournament. Although some teams did better than others, we are certain everyone had a great time. The Junior High teams all headed off to Cardston Friday after school. They new they were going to do well. The grade 7 girls tried their hardest winning some games, the grade 7 boys won as many as they lost! The grade 8 girls did their best and won some games, the grade 8 boys took second place. The grade 9 girls took second place, the grade 9 boys won their tournament defeating a team which had never lost before. The teams wish to send a special thanks to their coaches for al the time they've spent so the teams could function. The Senior High teams were off to Taber to play in their post season tournament. Both teams played with enthusiasim and did their best. Both teams have tournaments again this weekend. The boys will be playing in Fort Macleod and the Pandas will be playing in Magrath. Good luck Teams! * A * * * * A Here are a few tips on cutting down on energy usage and becoming environmentally friendly: 1. Use your microwave, toaster oven or slow cooker instead of your electric range. They all use much less energy. 2. Use an electric kettle to boil water, it uses half the energy of an electric stove. 3. Don't let your freezer build up more than 6mm (1/4") of frost. Defrost it regularly to keep it working at it's best. 4. Preheating your oven is not always necessary unless you are baking it only takes 10 minutes for the oven to reach 180 degrees C. Consider using the broiler as it saves energy and dosen't require preheating. 5. Portable microwave ovens are a highwattage appliance and require a separate 120-volt grounded electrical circuit. Never use a two-prong adaptor or extension cord to plug in a microwave oven.PRODUCE & GROC.
