Both teachers and trustees appreciate the fact that students were not kept out of school for an extended strike period and feel that the opportunity for communication and morale is as high as it has been for several years. The signing will take place as part of the annual Barbecue at the Cardston High School. BAGPIPES GALORE - As the educational moment, four students from the Spirit of Alberta under the direction of Mr. Jerry Chatwin brought bagpipes and corresponding dress to the Board table and demonstrated the skills associated with playing the bagpipes. Dr. Cottle particularly appreciates the amount of wind and finesse required to obtain a "significant sound" from those instruments. EARLY RETIREMENTS - two teachers applied and were approved to participate in the Early Retirement Incentive Program this year. The teachers are: Mr. George Taylor, Magrath School and Ms. Gunnild Fischer, Rockport Colony School. -Both are commended for their hours of service and dedication to the school system and thé Board wishes them an enjoyable and rewarding retirement. FISCAL EQUITY - Mr. Hunt reported to the Board that due to the lack of action on the part of the government in regards to fiscal equity, the Cardston School Division will be receiving only 79.6% of the amount of equity that they are entitled to. This 20.4% that we do not receive represents around $500,000 which would greatly reduce the burden felt by the Board and tax-payer under the current budget crunch. The Board continues to lobby strongly - even if it means Just receiving full ent i 11ement. GRADUATION SCHEDULE - Graduation dates have been set by the local schools. The Magrath School was the first to hold their event - this way on Friday, May 22, 1992. Following is a list of the remaining Graduations in the School Division for your information: Cardston High School - Fri., May 29. 1992 Del Bonita School - Fri, June 5, 1992 Glenwood School - Fri, June 5, 1992 Mountain View Schobl - Thurs, June 18, 1992 Cardston Jr. High School - Fri, June 19, 1992 Hillspring School - Thurs, June 25, 1992 -The public is welcome to attend any or all of these graduations. 1992-93 -EVALUATIONS - The Board directed the administration to continue onto part II of the Language Arts Evaluation which was commenced this year. Goal will be to unify, coordinate. and strengthen the Language teaching in our schools.
