This year's Rams volleyball team captured 6 medals, four of which were of the gold variety. Along the way the Rams went undefeated in league play, for the second straight season. Capturing the postseason crown and the Zone championship banner, likely rate highest among the team highlights. There were also several players, who received individual honors. Robert Kurio and Keegan Zuidhof were named as tournament all-stars during our own green and gold tourney, while Jared Warren, Patrick Lenaour and Keegan Zuidhof were all selected to the league all-star team. Another highlight was the wrap-up banquet, where the team enjoyed a highlight video put together by Jared Warren and handed out the Ml P award to Will Govenlock and the MVP award to Keegan Zuidhof. We won the consolation side of the CCH tournament, third place in the WCHS tournament, first place in the Bow Island tournament, and second place in our home tournament. In the 2004 zone playoffs the girls were outstanding in round robin play and got a bye into the semi-finals. Early on they endured many injuries, often 10 more, which was evident in their first 3 losses. Two of the losses came at the hands of strong American ■ponents in Colville, WA and Bonners Ferry, ID. As players began to return from injury and the team matured, 2 wins started coming, the first being over rival Medicine Hat. A week later the Rams went to Raymond for 3 much anticipated game with the Comets. Despite being down 14-3 at halftime, the Rams got on a roll and rned the 17-14 victory. The Rams used this momentum to win 4 of their next 5 games, and a missed 2-point nversion in the final minutes against Grande Prairie could have been the fifth. Unfortunately, the xperience and difficult season caught up to the Rams, as they were defeated by Raymond in the Provincial arterfinals, ending the season. The Rams won 8 all-star or position MVP awards at the 2004 SAHSFL /ards ceremony. With 6 of those players among the 36 returning, next year looks very promising indeed. With ,rd work in the off-season, the Rams are looking to make the Provincial Final once again. At provincials six teams finished the fi day within four strokes of each other on an extremely difficult track at Athabasca Country Club. Windy, cool conditions continu on day two and made it very difficult to make up strokes, however, a determined team effort v/as enough to edge out the stro field of teams and give the LCI Boys the Provincial Championship Gold Medal. We will be working towards achieving our goal of repeating as Zone Champions. In order to do this we will be relying heavily on our returning players, whom are very talented. Also, the group of new recruits wil fill in the missing gaps perfectly. This year's team is a very talented and athletic group of young ladies that will continue the success of the LCI Girls rugby program. Like last year, one of the mottos again will be: “Hit Hard, Hit Low, Hit Fast, Hit Often”. Also, as coaches we look forward to our first season with a JV team, which is mainly occupied by the ten Grade Nine players that we have. This will only strengthen the rugby program.
