As difficult as it is to remain one of the top football teams in the province, this year's edition of the LCI Rams did just that. Although a young team, you still dominated the S.A.H.S.F.L. and defeated teams from Edmonton, Calgary and Brooks. The Ram Football Team claimed it's third straight League Championship with a record of 5-1. This year's Grade 12's graduate proudly with a three year league record of 19-1 and a provincial record of 4-1 including Provincial Championships in 1993 and 1994, as well as 3 straight League Championships. Thanks to all of you for your commitment and dedication to the LCI Football Program. Each of you have special roles and are valued members of our program. Good Luck in the future. Darrell I.aidlawWrestling The Wrestling season was suppose to he one of rebuilding with four (4) wrestlers in their Grade 12 final year. However, with only four new rookies in the High School program, we decided to put this strong leadership of veterans to the test: develop a group of Junior I ligh wrestlers who will come to l.Cl looking for the wrestling program. Since January 1 st. tire two wrestling teams have been practising together and with tire guidance & leadership of the senior wrestlers, a legacy of three to five years and fifteen wrestlers were built. Six years ago. brad Neve fa Simon tills Toddington started wrestling with this program and for the last five have been practising and wrestling with the l.Cl Wrestling Team, brad was the 1994 Canadian Cadet Champion and Simon was a Silver Medalist at the same tournament. During the past two High School seasons, both have been Silver Medalists at the ASAA Provincial Wrestling Championships, but more importantly the leadership they have given in the practice room and at tournaments have been immense. I'm going to miss two strong wrestlers and more important: friends! Four other wrestlers who will be graduating are: Kris Jones (previous wrestler from Vancouver fir has wrestled the past two seasons with us). Irvin Cng (wrestled 3 seasons with us). Scan Low (wrestled two of three seasons with us), and lastly, a wrestler who has wrestled with the 1X1 team for the past two seasons but is a Stirling High School Student: Chris Mayncs (previous wrestler from the Yukon Territory, moved to Stirling which has no wrestling program and has won the ASAA Provincial Wrestling Championships in 1995 f* 1996). One connotation which might arise when one thinks of Making Waves' is one of disruption, of stirring things up. And, while to many such a connotation might appear somewhat negative. is it really? It is very important to realize that change seldom occurs when things are running smoothly and where the status quo is always maintained. Virtually every significant change -- every great leap forward in history -- has come because waves were made. This is true in life generally, but also in schools, and I hope too that it will be true in the futures which are before all of you. 'Making Waves' also suggests standing out and being noticed, which also can be very positive. rio one likes or admires a show-off or braggart, but acknowledging and recognizing accomplishments is good for individuals and groups, too. At L.C.I. achievements are recognized and publicized, whether academic, athletic, in the fine arts, or in the broader community. While you have been at L.C.I., I hope that your accomplishments - the waves which you made -- did receive appropriate recognition. As you move on with your lives also, I further hope that you continue to achieve much and that you receive the recognition such accomplishments deserve. for those finishing high school this June, all the very best in your future endeavors. Mr. ShacklefordJapanese Teacher Exchange Oh, what a wonderful world! Oh. what a wonderful world I am In! I am now in such a big world as I've never experienced. Mo. I should not use the word big. large nor huge for it. but I don't Know the good word for it so let me use the word great' Since the moment I was picked up at the airport in Calgary by Mr. Zauqg and Mr. Rasmussen. I was very surprised and moved to see the ■■greatness"; I can sec nothing but yellow wheat and blue sky and it is unable to get in my sight at a glance. Seeing it. I have to sec my front, right and left, of course, and then turn myself back and see front, right and left again. The flat grand view expands in all directions far away and makes the round horizon dividing from the heaven. Such "greatness" blots every movement of the world; many cows and horses In groups stand still here and there like hay on the fields and I can only realize to see the breaths bright white in the early morning sunlight that they arc alive. Even cars exist by houses, shops and gas stations, where someone stands as If they were in a picture, and everything is calm and still again. I am almost faint to be in the "greatness" and after an hour • driving, there comes the same flat endless grand view, yellow wheal and blue sky. nochangel But hours of navigation takes me to another splendid new world, the Rockies. The Rockies show up in front of me and soon I am embraced into her "greatness". How young the Rocky Mountains arc! Mow rough and powerful they arc! The long history of their struggle with heat and cold, rain and snow, glacier and wind, grass and trees and so on. have just been at the first stage of their development. They have been refusing to be conquered by any living things; the mountains in Japan have completely or almost have lost their sharpness and arc covered with green. Though the Rocky Mountains arc on the way. their "greatness" tenderly allows all the things to grow and live In them. This is Lethbridge. Alberta where I am now. In such a wonderful world live my dearest friends that I've met in Lethbridge. It is you; each of the L.C.I. teachers and staff and boys and girls and citizens. I am very poor at remembering your names. One day I asked one lady what her name was. but soon after that I remembered having asked tier name only live minutes before. But she never lost her smile and told me her name. Some took me to lunch and dinner, for short trips, hikes, golf, fishing and they arc really wonderful and I enjoyed them very much. I cannot tell them all but you have showed me your wonderful world and the ways of living in the "great" world as possible as you could. And each one of them made my wife and me fee! everything fresh, exciting and happy. I can never forget each of them. In the end I sincerely hope you will come to Sapporo and find the new world. I'm sure we will be helpful for you. Thank- you very much for all the goodwill that you showed toward us. Thankyou. With auditions held in September, there were three months of hard work by the cast and crew. Everything was accomplished by students with little adult guidance. The production also included a combination of art and drama with added tallets of the Blacklight puppeteers. There were a total of eight performances, four matinees for classes of the elementary schools around Lethbridge, and one matinee and three evening shows lor the public. Also a dress rehearsal (performance) for the staff of LCI. The production was a complete success with all shows soldout. CONGRATULATIONS.LCI Art Glass Guild The LCI Art Glass Guild is very proud of the Premiere Home Decor Arts & Craft Sale they held October 28th and 29th this year. The sale was a huge success thanks to students and staff who worked very hard. The proceeds from the sale have gone towards supplies and equipment for the Art program at LCI. As well, two tuition scholarships are being offered to students who are going on to Post Secondary studies. A $600,00 scholarship is being offered to a student going on to study Art and a $400.00 scholarship is being offered for general studies. A committee will determine the recipient of these scholarships. The sale featured over 50 artists and crafters from Alberta and Saskatchewan. Students were also encouraged to display and sell their art. The two day event was held in the front foyer, the cafeteria and the small gym. Students had a chance to meet many different people from all walks of life and see a business side of the art world. In addition, the students were excellent ambassadors for LCI as they interacted with the crafters and public. Excellent public relations for our school.12's The Wave of the FutureEmma Ablethorpe Krin Ablethorpe Steve Andrews Toni Arjannikov bill Baker Tim Black Gina Bonnard Kelly Briggs Kyle Burns Corey Gaboon Nicole Carson Ian Cooke Jill Crop Bared Wolf Philip Davies Guy Dobic Nathan Fraser Tyler Fritz Amber Girven Brad Gray Crystal Manna Byron ttanson Gregory llcscltinc Jason Morvat Tracy Hughes Christine HunterL Mike Jensen Nadine l.arko Melissa Larsen Aaron Lai race Patrick Lawlor Scan Low Evan Macdonald Erika McHugh Lisa McKay Jcffercy Morgan Janine Motz Jim Mulock Gavin Neill Michelle Parascak Thomas Peterson Kevin Poctlkcr Laura Porter Russ Red Crow Stephanie Ritter Randi Robinson Carlos Roman Brent Rowland Jason Sackman Wenona SchatzCliirs Selk Stephen Setski Meidy Scrvano Tanya Shot Both Sides Charla Solly Christine Soivy Bob Soumpassis Marty Steele Luke Strciscl Melissa Svoboda Jackie Trawcck Nathan Underwood Christina Velasquez Stephen Viola Jerry Waldrcn Sarah Ward Pam Widnicr Jasmine Zsombor Missing Graduates and Grade 12's Melissa Anderson I5cn Bcnncl Jasmine Bert; Lisa iSerg John Bester Matt Bourbeau Eugene Brave Kock Brant Chollack Micheal Collins Darren Crundwcll Jolcc Davis Billy Joe Dyck Monica llacioi Robyn Mealy Kirk lleppncr Cory IfofTman Colin Howe Saxon Jones Obcd Maurice Mark Mcech Tim Mcech Chadwick Mcllafont Regan Mullin ISrcll Ney Wendy Roberts Jason Roslinsky Brian Scheurkogcl 96 Student Exchange The 1995-96 IXI exchange program had a successful year. I'll admit the food is not so hot. and due to lack of sleep, the first day back in Lethbridge was shot, but the week I spent at the Terry Fox Center was fantastic, and you'll love it too. This group is the only one of it's Kind in Southern Alberta. It is an organization focused mainly in the United States but there arc a few choice schools in Canada who are given the privilege to host such a group. The honors Society is made up of Grade 1 I and 12 students chosen on several criteria: having a previous year's average of 80% or grater and demonstrating qualities of character. leadership, scholarship and service in their high school careers. This year the Honors Society consists of 93 members. The national honors Society focuses a large part of their efforts on helping out non-profit, community agencies. Throughout this year we have helped out the Lethbridge Regional Hospital, the PARTY (Prevent Alcohol and Related Trauma in Youth) Program, the Diabetes Foundation, the heart and Stroke Fund, the Alberta Lung Association and we have also helped the Lethbridge Minor Football Association. To raise money for the group annually, the nils does stock taking for Eaton's and we also plan to have a car wash this year. We would like to thank all our members this year for a job well done. Wal-Yuc Tsc.r-mj i [ I AI 1 — Vv King of the Rhodes Blair McMurren of the University of Lethbridge has landed himself the Super Bowl of scholarships. Blair is a fourth year English major and is a former graduate of LCL Mot only is the 2 1 year old one of just 1 1 Canadians to be so honoured this year, but he is only the second U of L grad to earn the full ride to England's Oxford University. Blair had long dreamt of becoming a Rhodes scholar. He hopes to study 20th-century literature and literary theory next October. The lengthy selection process, which included several interviews as he progressed from provincial to prairie finalist, thankfully came to an end recently. The Rhodes Scholarship not only takes into account academic distinction but also such qualities as character and leadership. Blair is certainly this type of well balanced individual. In the midst of finals and term papers, McMurren finds time on this night to perform with the U of L Brass Choir at a Christmas Concert. McMurren has won a number of literary awards including a national senior poetry contest put on by the Royal Canadian Legion. The poem, I am The Cenotaph, LCI students will remember from LCI's yearly Remembrance Day ceremony, (excepts taken from Lethbridge Herald article by Craig Albrecht, December 7/85).Student's Council Big splash The curtain is drawing to a close. Summer is almost upon us. Much to my surprise, I do not wish it were so. 1 have become attached to L.C.I., with its 4-star cafeteria and color coordinated lockers. I feel secure knowing that if I were ever to miss class, the Phone-Master is there for me. I have been proud to be your President. Mo other President around can boast of the things I can. Whether it’s sports, academics or even the character of the student body. I will never cease to be amazed at what my school has accomplished. To the grade 10and 1 l's, you have some big shoes to fill. Pollow the example of those who have gone before you. and you will not fail. You inherit the Green and Gold. Do not take this lightly, for you arc the future of L.C.I. Make us proudl Life is a journey, not a destination. Grade 12's, we arc at the cross-roads of life. We have matured, well most of us anyhow. We have learned such talents as tying Grade 10's to trees with their legs. Let's see them do that in Kaymond! We have expanded our vocabulary. We have evolved from the pip-squeak 10th graders who couldn't pick their schedules, even if it meant certain deat
