BISHOP BLESSES NEW SCHOOL After the blessing, there was an assembly. . .where the Bishop gave a short address.his excellency said (CCK is) one of the best equipped.he had seen and advised us to make the most of our opportunities (here). He explained that God is the centre of everything and that our ultimate aim was to give honor and glory to God. --IMPRINT, Vol. 3, No. 2, 1967-68 (Typically, the Bishop endeared himself to us by asking and getting for us an early dismissal from school: it was to be his final favor for our school.VftWGUflGfc I i. •• \ tA2R.C.Sr-»JC ! S*w6 \ 17 feU^ , k ir-S Mfi CM IK - ) V 15 0 Lord Jesus Christ, you commanded your apostles to pray that peace might come to whatever house they entered. Sanctify, we implore you, this building meant for the education of youth. Pour into it the richness of your blessing and peace. May salvation come to this school as it came to the house of Zaccheus when you entered it. Command your angels to guard it and to drive away from it all the power of the enemy. Fill the teachers with the spirit of knowledge, wisdom, and fear of you. Strengthen the students with heavenly grace,so that they may grasp with their minds, treasure in their hearts and carry out in their deeds all the teachings that lead to salvation. And may all here please you by orac- ticing every virtue, so that 'they may one day be welcomed into your home in heaven. Through you, Jesus Christ, Saviour of the world, who live and reign, God, forever. AMEN.Principal’s Message A great call to youth today is to "get with it". Not to be "with it" is to be "square" or, worst of all possible fates, a "cube". What is it that you are to "get with"? Are you with those who realize that only ac- ceotance of responsibility brings true freedom, or with those who believe that freedom is release from all responsibility? Are you with those who realize that all oeople have rights, or with those who believe that the rights of others are imoositions on one's "right" to do as he pleases? Are you with those who have the initiative to develop their God-given talents through har'd work and sacrifice, or with those who sit back, doing nothing but criticize? others, or with those who cynically ask, "What's in it for me"? In our school, we hope we are helping you to develop in wisdom, maturity, ar.d knowledge. We hope you are developing these qualities in your religious life, in your social life, and in your educational life. In short, we hope you are with it. Are you with those who realize the worth of actions which help and serve ADMINISTRATION VICE-PRINCIPAL VICE-PRINCIPALFACULTY Mrs. M. Melling, 3.Sc. 5=1 to ,Mrs. N . Lockerbie Rome: 'Thai's ihe way Ihe eooVie crumbles'?" Sr. Loretta returned to a noisy Lit. 21 class slapped a book upon the desk and ordered sharply,"! demand pandemonium!" It worked well— not a sound. MORAL—it isn’t what one says but how one says it that is important. MR. BURKE’S LATEST TV isn’t replacing radio; it’s replacing homework." SECRETARIAL STAFF Imagine a precision engine operating without lubrication and you will know how our school would operate without this battery of secretaries. Contrary to oopular opinion, their chief function is not the aisoensation of "ADMIT" slips. Daily they process mountains of communications; answer infinite numbers of phone calls; take messages; and turn out numberless tests, educational notes and memos. And attendance records of both Don Leon and Jay Reardon have risen to an all-time record high.JANITORIAL STAFF Normally these devoted persons' work is very much taken for granted. A COLOSSAL OVERSIGHT! Statistics suggest just some of their labors in our behalf. Actually 240 hours a week are devoted to tidying uo where we leave off in 2 auditoriums, 48 classrooms, 21 lavatories, several offices, staff and seminar rooms, library and lecture theatre, 2 boiler rooms and numerous storage areas. Annually they apply 75 gallons of wax to a floor area that includes almost one-half mile of hallways and stairwells. In winter walks are cleared of snow and in summer, grounds require backbreaking work and a "green" thumb. Countless chores form part of their daily rou- rine--scores of blackboards, reoairs to desks, chairs, lights, windows; incineration of trash. When the sixteen hour day begins there are no fewer than a dozen entrances to unlock: at night there are no fewer doors to secure (in addition to the hundreds of windows fastened earlier in the evening). All this and it has even been known that in a few cases students have received good, though unsolicited, advice from these imperturbable gentlemen. We, a3 graduates, stand at the doorway of the future, - a future which is shrouded in uncertainty, yet is full of hopes and great dreams. Tonight we are given the key to the door of the future. A3 we pas3 through this door, we see tho challenge of tomorrow - a challenge to xeet the world, to mold it a3 be3t we can, and, hopefully, to advance it as the preceeding generations have. We are not totally unprepared for the xeeting of this challenge. We have been given the basic tools by which we nay attain this goal. Over the past years, we have gratefully received gifts from many people. Tonight, as we enter the future and close the doors on the past, we must pause to thank our parents, our teachers and our school board xembers. It is the combined efforts of these people which have enabled us to reach this graduation, - this culmination of twelve years of struggle . of hope. of Joy . of fear . We have waited a long time for graduation, but now that it is here we seem to experience an unexplained feeling of reluctance to pass through the doorway, to go into the future, to leave our school behind, - our C.C.H.St What is it that makes our school so special for us? Maybe it seems special because of "Chonita", the tre me ndous operetta we staged this year. E ve ry person in the school shared the enthusiasm, co-operation and enjoyment of this production. It might be because of our sports activities, - the teams, the cheerleaders, the spectators. Every game was interesting whether we were winning or losing. Or maybe it’s special because of our activities, academic or extra-curricular. Perhaps it*s so very special because this is our la3t year. We*11 depart on June 30, happy and relieved. Examinations will bo over a3 well as the long hours of study they entailed . But there will also be that ominous sense of sadness, for we know that we can never return in the same position as when we left. In fact, we can nover really return. After we leaver our class picture will be hung in the halls of C.C.H.S. A picture of tribute, - almost like an epitaph, announcing: "Here was a group that attended this school." We ray enter these halls, again and again, but we will come o nly as visitors, strangers, - to what used to be our way of life . to the order of bells and office announcements. They will greet us: "How are you? You look great!" But we*11 know we don*t belong. We won’t stand in line waiting for an absentee slip - our passport.to class - for ours has been cancelled. We are part of the past. Our position as the senior class has been taken over by others. Yes, perhaps Catholic Central is so special to us becauso it is about to be tak en away from us and to become part of th e unforgettable past. In terms of strength on the gridiron and on the basketball court they added greatly. But much more fundamentally, they showed by their example that an education is a real asset. We younger students admired their unostentatious conduct both with faculty present and out of sight. They were found to be studious and charming, light-hearted at times, though serious whenever the occasion called for it. We wish them every success in the future. Six games were scheduled. St Mary's Eoys' SAINTS from Calgary visited the COUGAR den and crawled home nursing their oride. The remaining season proved to be somewhat more difficult. The GRADUATES seemed bent on obliterating our youthful club. Typically RAMS proved to be difficult, though COUGARS scored a few moral victories. Even BULLDOGS showed surprising strength in the final game of the season but not enough to catch uo with COUGARS in second place.SENIOR CHEERLEADERS 11111111 . u H.—JJal BACK: Anita Borigatti Mrs. Collins Pauline Suriano FRONT: Helen Odorski Betty McMillan Judy Velker Laura Lee Mary Sikora JUNIOR CHEERLEADERS BACK: Linda Wryrostok Pat Packard Jane Burris Mrs. Stadniki Nancy Rice Rita Brees Pat Westerbrook FRONT: Lorraine Lee Carol Moser Rosemary Alteri Marion Kelly Elizabeth Boh"B”GIRLS’ BASKETBALL BACK: Mr. Tratch Jackie Merrick Frances Lamane Yvonne Landry Jean Terlesky Marilyn Babick Denise Forester Pat Byrne FRONT: Alenka Kveder Pat Lee Diane Terleski Clara Collins Niane Nason JUNIOR GIRLS’ BASKETBALL BACK Flora Donato Jo-Ann McDonnell Jean Kambeitz Kris Kochanski Marjorie Marse Terri Wojtowicz Aranka Paksi Mr. Vagner FRONT Edna Buchan Pat Packard Pauline Chenard Marian Schneider Mary Kaplan Janet McDonnell'A’ TEAM W. With the Raymond club losing their height advantage next year, our future looks bright indeed." AWARDS John Molyneux (Molly as he is fondly known) was honored with the athlete- of-the-year award. Past coach Dennis O'Donnell, making the presentation noted that John had earned the honor over the years but especially this year as cur quarterback and first- stringer on the "A's". On the same occasion Brian Sanders was named most-valuable-player and Alex Dudas was honored with new hardware, rookie-of-the-year. In addition to Molyneux and Sanders, Steve Mychasiuk, Rick Campbell and Aurelio Belbeilo were awarded letters. Honored with letters in the "3" division were Rick Credico,George Demers, Bill Harbuz, and George Lazzaretto."3" GIRLS BASKETBALL Because of twelve girls and one Ken Tratch, the Catholic Central Cittens enjoyed a highly successful year once again. Out of twenty-three games, only seven were given uo and these by close scores. Long afternoons and evenings of hard practice paid off in no fewer than three second oiace finishes in as many tournaments, and a close second place finish in the city league next to Clipper Queens. The most exciting game was olayed during the Zone finals with W.R'. Myers Two overtime periods and many prayers later, the Cittens finally emerged victorious (Besides enjoying themselves the girls also showed great school soirit--could so much work have been so much fun-- why not ask the A Boys?) "3" BOYS BASKETBALL The E Boys at Central has a very.busy and successful year on the hardwoods. Highlights of the year were winning the consolation trophy at the AABA Centennial Tournament, defeating the Colts on three occasions and finishing the season in an exciting doubleovertime victory to win the McGrath Invitational. All-stars of the McGrath event were Bill Harbus and Hubert Federkeil. The won-loss record was an impressive 15-10, several of the latter being to A teams. Much experience was gained during the season and this will benefit our players as they move into the A squad next year.On the count of three, we go. .One. . two. Talent and initiative we never knew we had, together with six weeks of downright hard work combined to produce the gypsy operetta, Chonita Thanks to the siligence anaco- operation of countless people, it was an outstanding success. Our school has never experienced anything like Chonita, and it hasn't been the same since.HOW WE LOOKED THEN Perry V.'endy Vonie Betty Susan Rick Rick C. Jim Z. Sharie Elsa Bob R. Of course there is the anxiety and perspiration of exams. Lunch hours devoted to neglected and forgotten homework--often in uncomfortable places. Business machines that demand much concentration. On a more pleasant side there is a visiting troupe of actors from Calgary; a fashion show to be planned and hosted; and a very popular student exchange program with Great Falls. All this and more is our life from nine to four.SOCIAL Decorating difficulties?? Abominable Snowman?? "Isn't this just too romantic!" // • • • MANHUNT? This year our men concentrated their scientific efforts on the mathematical and orato- rial skills. The results were a genuine credit to all of us. Shown above are the remarkable exhibits of Gloria Collins,Sharon Cranley and Helen Burgess. We are grateful to Gloria for having carried the Central banner to the National Science Fair at Vancouver during the Easter recess, and for being awarded high honors there. Who would have susoected a "bee" exoert in our midst? VISITING DIGNITARIES Junior high students will not soon forget the very talented performance of the renowned violinist, Ivan Rubinoff or his advice on appreciation of human talent. Senior high students remember the shoulder-to shoulder talk of Sr. Teresa Ryan. Her sincerity and simplicity of faith prompted many students to re-evaluate a life of dedication to fellow-man and to God.GRADUATION * n &L - ACATHOV.IC CfcNlUKU Mt&M *.C*»ocl pdf
