| Summary: | Kanada získala renomé střední mocnosti. Současný premiér Stephen Harper se snaží ale od této tradiční role distancovat a najít pro Kanadu novou pozici na mezinárodní scéně. Cílem této bakalářské práce je dokázat, že Kanada nadále jedná jako střední mocnost a to i přes snahy premiéra Harpera přesvědčovat o opaku. Zkoumání je provedeno na příkladu Arktidy. První část práce je zaměřena na definici znaků střední mocnosti. Kanada je v tomto směru jedinečná, tudíž je vývoj termínu představen z perspektivy zkoumané země. Druhá část je zaměřena na působení současné vlády v Arktidě, poukazuje na rozdíl mezi tím, co Harper proklamoval a tím, čeho bylo reálně dosáhnuto. Práce se také věnuje očekávané role Kanady v Arktické radě. Katedra politologie a mezinárodních vztahů Obhájeno Canada has built a reputation of a middle power. Current Prime Minister Harper distances Canada from its traditional role and seeks a new position on the international stage. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to demonstrate that Canada still acts as a middle power even though Harper asserts the opposite. The research is carried out on the case of the dispute over the Arctic. The first part of the thesis defines main features of middlepowermanship. Canada is an exceptional middle power so the emphasis is placed on development of the term from the perspective of the examined country. The second part of the thesis is focused on activities of the current government in the Arctic. The thesis focuses on the position proclaimed by Harper at the beginning of his administration and discovers what Stephen Harper managed to realize and what he moderated. Then the thesis gives attention to the Canada?s expected influence on the Arctic Council.
