It was discovered later that the sketch offered a good opportunity for a color experiment. It also draws on inspiration from Inuit art at the Denver Art Museum. The artist was aware of the way our eyes interpret color. Our eyes can only process one color to its complement at a time. Color complements edge to edge result in a visual shock.
